One day can change everything.

One day the world is a delicate balance.

The next day the balance is tipped.

And there is no bringing it back.

When everyone over a certain age dies, a group of young adults make a perilous journey across the US, in hopes of finding something beautiful or amazing.

Something to cherish as their last memory.

Because maybe they’re dying too.

And in the end, all we want is something to be grateful for.

And maybe for someone to remember us when we’re gone.

From the author of The Born Trilogy, The Last City of Men, and The Blood Trail Chronicles comes a story of friendship and love, even as the world is ending.

This is a standalone novel

Author Bio

I believe growing up in a really small town gives a person a little advantage when it comes to the imagination. You need one or you go mad.

Needless to say, mine saved me. After it got me into trouble first, that is. That’s the problem with a vivid imagination, all the lies you tell.

I am happily married with two daughters.

I have two giant dogs, two savage cats, and a penchant for a glass of red.

Also, I drag my bread through the sauce. I can’t help myself, bread is life.

According to my age, I am meant to be a responsible adult, but it isn’t going well at all. I would still head off to Hogwarts tomorrow and I suspect there isn’t a single wardrobe I haven’t crept into, hoping to find the door to Narnia. And don’t even get me started on the King’s Road, I get lost.

Fortunately, I am an international bestseller so I have wormed my way into a quirky or eccentric category.

Thank God for that.

I am represented by Natalie Lakosil from the Bradford Literary Agency and am published traditionally with Montlake Romance.

Excerpt

“Well, I hate to do this, but I am willing to let him go, with no charges if you can convince him to be an informant for me.”

“Excuse me?” Dex’s father responded, irritated.

“I know why you are here. Also, who you are working with and you are playing a dangerous game. I will stay out of that, but, your son is in the position to shed some light on this case and help your cause. There is something going on with the sports teams at that school. Kids going missing at the top of their prime, it’s frustrating we don’t know why.”

“I understand, but why would I put my son in danger to get you your answers?”

“Because it may help you get the answers you seek…for The Vigilant,” Detective Whalen whispered when he mentioned the last word.

“I’m not doing that. Would you put your kid in that kind of danger?”

“I’ve tried, but my son wasn’t good enough to be recruited by the elite on the team. He’s into other things, playing the guitar in a band. The Soul warriors have to be selected, it’s a process. Your son, he’s got what they are looking for, he’s strong, a bit impulsive, a fighter and not a detective’s son.”

Dex almost didn’t catch it, but had leaned in to hear every bit of their conversation.

“How about this, you put things in motion, my son doesn’t know he may be exposed to the information you seek. Let things play out, then if you need to question him, I’ll make sure he’s available for that.”

There was a pause of silence, “That’s fair and a good approach. The less he knows, the more likely he will be exposed too. You’ve got a deal.”

“And detective, don’t ever mention The Vigilant in my presence again. You can get my family and I killed if you do, and I fought too damned hard to be able to live to risk someone putting me and mine in danger.”

“Understood.”

Dex heard a slapping of hands and supposed they were shaking hands.

“Now, detective, can I see my son?”

My Current WIP Set-Up {A5 Uglydori Traveler’s Notebook}

Hey Everyone,

Today I have a lovely crossover post for you. It involves planners and writing, two of my favourite things.

I recently took part in a planner swap and I got this absolutely gorgeous A5 Uglydori from Uglybug Traveler’s Notebooks. The size meant it was perfect to set up for my current work-in-progress and NaNo prep and the quality of the leather means it will hold well getting a battering in my bag.

I have set-it up around the same theme as my novel genre and added little bits and bobs that inspire me and make me happy.

I have 4 notebooks inside it, each serves a different purpose.

Notebook 1 is my WIP Bible – this contains everything I need to know about my book. Character profiles, world building, plot points, outlines, storyboard. You get the drift.

Notebook 2 is my NaNo BuJo – I have all my preptober goals set up, NaNo goals, word trackers, NaNo self care info and I will add any word crawl pieces I take part in as well as a running to-do list.

Notebook 3 is my WIP notebooks – this is where I write out scenes and pieces of actual writing that I want to include in my book but don’t have my laptop with me. Great for when I am out and about.

Notebook 4 is for Writing Resources – this is where I write more technical notes, print out copies of advice, trips, tricks and worksheets. This is a book I can keep with me regardless of which WIP I work on as the information is relevant to writing in general.

I have various sticky notes and washi tucked in the pockets along with a NaNo personal size insert that I have yet to transfer all information into.

I would love to see if you have a planner or TN set up for NaNo or your work-in-progress.

Blog Tour: A Dangerous Game by Madeline Dyer {Review}

Dangerous Game Banner

Today is my stop on the A Dangerous Game by Madeline Dyer blog tour.

Blurb…

LOVE WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE EASY.

All her life, Keelie Lin-Sykes has known what she wants: to protect her brother and sisters by killing as many of the soulless Enhanced Ones as she can. Oh, and to have fun while she’s doing it. After all, hiding in a secret Untamed community, while the group’s Seer warns them of danger, shouldn’t mean that life can only be serious, right?

But, when a face from her past suddenly—and secretly—shows up, Keelie’s catapulted back into the very world she’s been trying to escape from for the last ten years: a world full of guilt, lies, and…love. And the deeper Keelie gets into this world, the bigger the risks become.

Now, Keelie must deceive those she values most in order to protect them, even though her actions will destroy everything she knows and haunt her family forever. But she can’t ignore her feelings–not again. And Keelie will do anything to be with the man she loves.

Review…

Admittedly I have not read any of Madeline’s Untamed series books. I was a bit worried I would have had to have read them to fully understand the world that A Dangerous Game was set it. A Dangerous Game is a standalone and you don’t need to have read the other books. However, while the story is perfectly readable as a standalone, I did get the feeling that there was more to it which may be remedied by reading the other books.

Either way I will be more than happy to pick up the Untamed series as I really enjoyed A Dangerous Game. I enjoyed the characters but mostly I loved the world in which is was set. I really liked how things came together not just with the Enchanted and Untamed but with the element of the Spirits as well and Seers. The world has a lot of depth and I am really looking forward to exploring this in more detail.

I really like Madelines writing style it all flows very naturally and she has the ability to make you want to keep turning the pages. The ending surprised me quite a lot and I really liked that. I love it when a book isn’t predictable and the end comes as a surprise.

All in all I would give A Dangerous Game a very well deserved 4.5 stars (my first ever half star!).

Thanks for reading. To find out more about Madeline and her books you can do so on my previous post <here>

Blog Tour: A Dangerous Game by Madeline Dyer

Dangerous Game Banner

Hey Everyone. Today is quite an exciting day for me. I am hosting my first book blog tour. I do not plan to make this a regular occurance but I wanted to help out someone from one of my writing and book groups.

I will be bringing my review of the book later in the week and on Sunday I will be linking all the reviews of the lovely book bloggers which have taken part.

Madeline is the author of the highly rated Untamed series. The first book in the series is Untamed and there are 3 books so far with a 4th due to be released at a later date.

Blurb..

As one of the last Untamed humans left in the world, Seven’s life has always been controlled by tight rules. Stay away from the Enhanced. Don’t question your leader. And, most importantly, never switch sides–because once you’re Enhanced there’s no going back. Even if you have become the perfect human being.

But after a disastrous raid on an Enhanced city, Seven soon finds herself in her enemy’s power. Realizing it’s only a matter of time before she too develops a taste for the chemical augmenters responsible for the erosion of humanity, Seven knows she must act quickly if she’s to escape and save her family from the same fate.

Yet, as one of the most powerful Seers that the Untamed and Enhanced have ever known, Seven quickly discovers that she alone holds the key to the survival of only one race. But things aren’t clear-cut anymore, and with Seven now questioning the very beliefs she was raised on, she knows she has an important choice to make. One that has two very different outcomes.

Seven must choose wisely whose side she joins, for the War of Humanity is underway, and Death never takes kindly to traitors. (less)

Book Review: The Path Keeper By N.J Simmonds

Book Review(10)

Today I have a review of the book The Path Keeper by N.J Simmonds. This is a YA book aimed at the older readers as there is some mature content contained.

The Blurb…

What if every coincidence was a tiny miracle? What if our life was already mapped out before birth? What if someone had the power to change the path we were destined to follow?

Ella hates her new life in London, she misses Spain and she’s struggling to get over her past until she meets Zac. He has always loved her but he isn’t meant to be part of Ella’s story. Not this time. Not ever. Little does she know that his secret is the one thing that will tear them apart and will force her to live in a world that no longer makes sense, a world more dangerous than she could ever imagine.

The first in a thrilling new YA fantasy series, The Path Keeper is a tale of passion and secrets, of first loves and second chances, and the invisible threads that bind us. Can love ever be stronger than fate?

The Review…

I first heard of this book via the Facebook group The Fiction Cafe, a few people had read it and the author was also a member. After hearing so many things about it I decided to pick myself up a copy. The YA genre suited my usual preferred style so I was intrigued. I enjoy reading novels by lesser known author’s as there are some hidden gems among them and this was most definitely one of them.

The opening chapter had me hooked, it was full of intrigue and mystery and really made me want to read on to find out more about the characters. Ella is a spunky character who doesn’t fit into the world she has been thrown and has some issues regarding her family situation. As we learn more about her through the book we see different aspects of her personality and gain insight and rationale into her thinking.

Zac is lovable right from the start. You can see him wrestling with his internal demons to try and figure out where he belongs and the fight he has with his heart every step of the way.

During the course of the story, you learn more about Ella’s family with will leave you loving and loathing different people.

There are flashbacks to different era’s throughout the book and these play an important role in the story which doesn’t become apparent until later in the story and it all fits together beautifully.

Natali has written a beautiful book that while focuses on romance and love is far from your standard and traditional read. Anyone who loves Romance, YA, Fantasy I would urge you to read this book. I am desperate to read the next in the series which will be out in Feb 2018. I would rate this book 5 out of 5.

It will have you questioning what you think you know about angels, heaven and how fate and destiny play a part in our lives.

More Info…

You can purchase a copy of The Path Keeper on Amazon.com and Amazon UK

For more information and reviews The Path Keeper is on Goodreads and you can find more information about the author and book here on N J Simmonds.

Thank you for reading.
