Guest Post: Jennifer Gilmour {Product Review – Brother Label Maker}

Since I was young I always loved labelling and when I got my first label maker I was in my element. Do you remember those old style label makers that emboss the plastic type tape?

Is it just me or did you also have the urge to go around and label everything?

It also reminds me of The Simpsons episode in which Bart Simpson goes around labelling every item in his path, oh it made me laugh because that was my childhood and a very stationary geekette moment of course.

My husband has his own printing business and I have been helping out packing and design work. I am at home as a writer so always take his packages. One evening he opened a package and turned to me and said “You will love me for this”… only to see it was an electronic label maker for the packages he sends. I could have hugged him or kissed him but I wanted to print the first label, it was an urge and all the memories had come flooding back!

Hubby’s business- www.outfoxprinting.wordpress.com

I have to admit it wasn’t easy to get started and it was a lot of faff to wirelessly print. The software is basic and thats all it needs to be, it was easy to actually type up and print and thats what we wanted to do so that we sped up the packing process.

Alas my first label was printed and I whipped it off the adhesive and stuck it to my husband, I won’t repeat what was printed here but the Bart Simpson in me came out! Oh how I had so much fun, especially when I discovered the mobile phone app which is much more of a faster process then on the computer. We were covered in stickers but it was ok as it was the complimentary roll. The fun was over and we got all serious about the cost side then. I gladly offer to pack so I can use it and yes I am not ashamed to admit it.

The label printer we have is the Brother QL-810W and we bought it for around £85, it was worth the investment for this price- this was on the offer price on Amazon at the time. The non sale price is around £193 and I think we would of hesitated a little or had been a little disappointed to have to spend that amount on this device.

printer

Here it is on Amazon- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-QL-810W-Connected-Wireless-Printing/dp/B01NC39W6

Like I mentioned before the installation was frustrating, in fact It took me around 40 minutes to set up both computers and two mobile phones. The software on the laptop and the process to get to print is way longer then on your mobile phone which I do find frustrating as I use the computer the most.

If you are using it for a business element, handmade or crafting then this is a good investment or the sale price as its quick to print labels from the Etsy app.

Happy labelling

Whitelines Paper and App {Review}

Hey Everyone,

A little while ago I came across something on a study Instagram account that had me intrigued. As I looked into it I found there were actually quite a lot of students that use it.

I’m talking about Whitelines Notepaper. Whitelines is designed with special whitelined grid that can be scanned using an app so you can produce a digital photo of the handwritten image.

Below is an example of an original and scanned copy.

I really like how this works. I mean I still have to type up stuff but at least all notes are automatically there for me to reference back too.

The only slight issue is that pastel doesn’t show up well on the scanned copy. Black and dark colours show up really well though.

All in all it’s a really good little tool. The notebooks aren’t too expensive either. The A4 one was £6.50 and A5 was £5.50 both can be found at Amazon and are available with Prime shipping. The app to use in conjunction with the paper is free to download via your app store.

I’d love to know if you use Whitelines and how you find it.

Thanks for reading.

Planner Queen’s January Sub-Box {Review}

Hey Everyone,

I was recently asked by the lovely Corrina over at Planner Queens if I would like to review one of their planner subscription boxes.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I love a box full of stationery mysteries through the post so I happily accepted the offer.

I received the box and had to open it immediately. This is what I got;

Memo Page Flags

Cloud Sticky Notes

Planner Designed Washi Tape

Two Journaling Cards

Die-Cuts

Tab Journaling Stickers

Sticker Sheet from Jems Journal

Daisy Pin Badge

All these items are really cute. I love the little Daisy Pin badge. This is a lovely little box that isn’t going to break the bank. It is well presented and has bits that every stationery lover will like.

You can get a box from here, they are priced at £12.99 (£13.99 if on pre-order) and shipping is free.

Corrina has been kind enough to offer a code for 10% off as well Royal18.

Avon 2018 Planner Review

The other day I was browsing the online Avon catalogue while buying a dressing gown for my daughter. As if by magic there was some stationery. Matching pack of 2 notebooks for £8.50 and a planner for £6.50. I bagged this bargain planner as it looked pretty and I was still on the lookout for a desk planner for next year.

The planner arrived and I have to say it’s well worth the low price tag.

The outside is hardback black and white stripes with gold writing, closure band and coils. It’s A5 in size.

You can just see the tabs popping out for the 3 sections within the planner. There is Diary, Addresses and Notes. The tabs are rounded which is a lovely touch and are on dotted grey and white dividers.

The inside is pretty standard. There is an introduction page, week on 2 pages, a-z addresses and lined note paper. The paper quality isn’t amazing but it isn’t bad. It’s white, not too thin but not completely smooth either. I haven’t done a pen test yet. I’ll add a link in separately when I do.

At the very back is a little wallet to slot bits in. It also comes with a Gold pen with blue ink, the pen feels quite cheap if I’m honest. There is a pen loop for it as well.

All in all this is a lovely little budget planner. The only thing it misses is a monthly overview, if it had that then I’d sing it’s praises all day long.

Planner Girl’s Collective: Back To School Supplies

It’s that time of the year again where Autumn starts creeping in and the children are preparing to start the new school year. For the older generation like myself we prepare for college or university.

I am going to be starting my Masters in Law so I have been having a look at supplies I need to gather.

As a self-confessed stationery addict this is probably the best thing for me to do lol.

Pens

I love the Signo Sakura Uniball pen but they are only available from Hong Kong so I order from eBay. I order a larger pack in Black.

I also have these in red and blue – this will be especially handy as I will need to colour code various things such as Acts of Parliament, Laws and Cases.

Highlighers

For me there is only 1 choice. Zebra Mildliners.

I already have the blue set to the right but I am debating buying the other colour set. You can get these from Amazon they do come in single packs as well.

Notebooks

I personally love the ARC notebooks from Staples. I have a few A5 and an A4 which I will be using for my studies. I love the interchangeable pages and that the paper is sturdy and good quality.

Ring-Binder Folders

I haven’t quite decided yet but I’m likely to get either these Kraft ones from Paperchase or these roll around ones from WHSmith.

Other than this I don’t really need anything. I’ve got rulers, pencils etc in the plenty.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to pop over to the other ladies to see their Back to School Supplies.

Small Business Spotlight: Little Dragon Jewellery

636256887042878439_Afterlight_Edit

Hey Everyone.

Well I have a bit of a change to my schedule. Every Tuesday I will now be posting what is referred to as Small Business Spotlight. In this post I will feature Etsy shops and other small businesses. It will highlight what they sell and introduce you to the face behind the wonderful stores.

This week we have the beautiful Fiona Littlewood from Little Dragon Jewellery.

I’m Fiona!
I’ve been married for 10 years, have two kids (a boy and a girl) and am moving house in the next few weeks!
I trained as a florist and worked in the trade for over 15 years, one of my favourite things to do were the bespoke funeral tributes I made a Harley Davidson from flowers for a bikers funeral once. I also really enjoyed doing small-scale wire work for weddings.
I started the business after I had the kids and was on maternity leave as we moved 100 miles, leaving me with no job to go back to!

I make jewellery, planner goods and crochet/knitting notions. Mainly from polymer clay and wire. Every item is made by hand, by me. I love making creatures. I think my unicorns have probably been the best sellers in the last two years, but my ultimate favourite are the dragons. Any size, any colour, any item can have a dragon.

My shop is named after the year I was born! It was the chinese year of the dragon, but several family members had also been born in previous dragon years making me the Little Dragon.
My shop logo was designed by a lovely graphic artist who used a dragon necklace I had made as the basis for it, I still have the necklace as I never listed it for sale after the initial drawings!
I currently use a Websters pages in caramel for my daily planner this has everybody’s work/school schedule (shifts, trips, clubs etc) on the monthly pages and the week to view has checklists for daily reminders and to do notes. The inserts were made by Kirsty at Just so and they are wonderful! I think I may have planning peace in this one!

My business planner is a Pear Saffino. It was my second ever Filofax and it is sooooo beautiful! I use a diary in this one to block out my work week into times for making, networking and so on. I also have sections for ‘want to make’ ideas which seems to have become an endless list, business developement ideas, current orders, notions and creature club (two pre-order ‘clubs that I run through my Etsy shop, I name a theme and people purchase the items before I make them. I can offer a discount on these items as making more at the same time makes it more time efficient) and a running stock list. Its my business brain!

I have found since having the kids that I’ve usually got so much going on that if I don’t write it down, I will probably forget about it. The act of writing it sets it in my memory, which is why having a planner works so much better than the electronic equivalent for me.

I don’t really have a unicorn planner, I’m really happy with the planners I have. I would love to try a TN of some description Uglydori’s are amazing, and a couple of the other leather makers I’ve seen have been beautiful. I currently also use a Lyradori for all things ‘house’ (we’re moving soon, so it’s got packing lists and new colour schemes in, amongst other things) and I have a purple Filofax Flex that I’ve modified with elastic that I use for tracking crochet projects and my yarn stash.
You can find me all over social media now. I started out on twitter and gradually added others. Now I tend to use twitter the least, and Facebook and Instagram the most,

Planner Girls Collective: My Desert Island Essentials…

636236302596832982_Afterlight_Edit.jpg

Hey Everyone and welcome back to the Planner Girls Collective. I had to take a couple of weeks off posting due to a very poorly toddler and a lack of prior prep from me (oppsie).

Anyway I am going to approach today’s post in a slightly different manner and base it upon this question. If I was stranded on an Island what 10 things would I have to have with me. I don’t mean practical items either such as a lighter, water etc. I mean purely luxury items.

  1. Books – For me it would be a book series. Ideally more than one but in the spirit of the game I would pick a longer series like Throne of Glass.
  2. My watercolour paints – I would still want to use a creative journal.
  3. My creative journaling TN – With fresh, new inserts (6 of them)
  4. A pack of pencils – They will last longer than a pen
  5. A photo album – Full of photos of family and friends.
  6. Washi tape – Just to make everything look pretty and then I can hang my paintings in my tree house.
  7. Gingerbread t-bags – Well..why not? this is my fav type of green tea. I love how warming it is.
  8. My Book Journal – If I cannot take all the books with me I can at least take reminders of those books.
  9. My foxy blanket – I love the feel of this blanket and it’s extremely coforting to have.
  10. My wax melter and melts – Because I would miss my gingerbread and summerscoop scents lol

I would love to hear from you on your top 10 luxury items, what would you wish for if you were stuck on a deserted island?

Please don’t forget toheck out this amazing bunch and what their items are.

UglyBugDoes October Box

*Disclaimer – I received this box free of charge for being a member of Ugly Bug Does Design Team. This does not influence my opinion in anyway and all my comments are my own*

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”… That’s what I am singing with this amazing box.

This is such a bittersweet post as it is my last month as part of the design team as Michelle has decided to try a different way to manage and promote the boxes.

This is by far my favourite of all the boxes I have been lucky enough to receive.

So without further ado this is what was included;

* Sticker Kit themed for winter.

* Snowman sticky notes

*Snowflake metal paperclip

* Blue fine point nib pen

* Winter themed charm

The snowflake clip was my favourite item, unfortunately it has gone walk about and Michelle is kind enough to send me another YAY!
