Blog Tour: Oh! What A Pavlova by Isabella May {Q&A}

Oh What A Pavlova

Hey Everyone,

Today I am bringing you a  Q&A session from the lovely Isabella May in honour of her Book Birthday for Oh! What a Pavlova.

Oh! What a Pavlova

Kate Clothier is leading a double life: a successful jet-setting businesswoman to the outside world, but behind closed doors, life with Daniel and his volcanic temper is anything but rosy.

Some days – heck, make that EVERY day – cake is her only salvation.

Slowly but surely, the cities she visits  and the men she meets – help her to realise there IS a better future.

And the ley lines of Glastonbury are certainly doing their best to impart their mystical wisdom…

But will she escape before it’s too late?

1: Can you summarise ‘Oh! What a Pavlova’ in just a few words?
Okay, are you ready? It’s quite a different premise for a novel…
Cake meets domestic violence, travel, spirituality, comedy, and a bid for freedom in the arms of many an unsuitable man… all set against the backdrop of the weird and wonderful characters of the publishing industry.

2: What was the inspiration for this book?
A burning desire to dispel the misconception that an abusive relationship is abusive all the time: it is not. But I also wanted to portray a very honest picture of the way D.V can splinter the victim’s life. Quite often they are leading a double life, their outer façade so astonishingly different to the unthinkable acts they are tolerating behind closed doors. Ultimately though, I wanted to create a story with a very different message; a message of empowerment for any woman or man who is currently feeling anything but strong.

3: Did you do any research for the book?
Yes. Although I have been to most of the twenty-two destinations which feature in the book, a couple of locations are brand new to me, so I had to read a fair bit about them to get a feel for them. And then to reinvigorate my memory with the sights, sounds and smells of the more familiar places, I turned to Pinterest, which is fantastic for evoking emotion and atmosphere (as well as procrastination!)

And of course, there was a lot of reading to do on the subject of abuse – not so pretty, but essential for furthering my own personal understanding, and so I could tell a more comprehensive story.

4: How do you decide on the names for your characters?
Oh, the character names in this novel have each changed more than half a dozen times. Then again, it is a book that was several years in the making! My second and third novels (The Cocktail Bar and Costa del Churros) were so much easier. The names seemed to magically float into my head from an invisible Idea Cloud and they have stuck ever since.

5: Is there a message for the reader? What do you hope they will get from one of your books?
All of my books have an integral message: you are far more in control of your life than you have ever realized, especially when you let the Universe lead the dance. But hopefully I say this in a subtle way. There is also nothing worse than a Preaching Fairy Godmother…

Author Bio

Isabella May lives in (mostly) sunny Andalucia, Spain with her husband, daughter and son, creatively inspired by the sea and the mountains. When she isn’t having her cake and eating it, sampling a new cocktail on the beach, or ferrying her children to and from after school activities, she can usually be found writing. As a co-founder and a former contributing writer for the popular online women’s magazine, The Glass House Girls – – she has also been lucky enough to subject the digital world to her other favourite pastimes, travel, the Law of Attraction, and Prince (The Purple One). She has recently become a Book Fairy, and is having lots of fun with her imaginative ‘drops’! Costa del Churros is her third novel with Crooked Cat Books, following on from the hit sensations, Oh! What a Pavlova and The Cocktail Bar.

My Thoughts on Isabella’s New Book – Costa Del Churros

It was a fantastic read! It was great to see a couple of familiar faces, including revisiting one I previously disliked and now have a totally new opinion of. I really love how Isabella manages to mix reality and a hint of magic. Marvellously written and the characters are so relatable, each one with their own faults and imperfections. As always Isabella writes in a way which allows the words to flow from the pages.

Thanks for reading.

Confessions Of A Plannerholic #4

Welcome to another edition of Confessions Of A Plannerholic.

Today we have another Q&A session. Before I get started I would love to hear from you, would you like us to feature a particular topic or have questions to pose?  If so please feel free to leave a comment or send a mail via our Facebook page and we will gladly arrange it.

We are also still looking for contributors.

Okay, let’s begin

1) How many planners do you own?

I’ve actually had quite a scale back over the last few months however I still have a fair few.

Grey Wellness Planner by Kikki-K

Mint Webster’s Pages Traveler’s Notebook

Walnut Webster’s Pages Traveler’s Notebook

Nordic Paperchase Planner

Heidi Swapp Memory Planner

Webster’s Pages Pink Planner

I also have 2 clipbooks but I consider them notebooks rather than planners.

2) What is your favourite Pen?

My absolute favourite Pen is the Uniball Signo Sakura 0.38 nib. I have to order these from China but I love them.

3) Do you have a favourite theme?

At the moment I am loving floral and Boho themes.

4) How many rolls of washi do you own? At my last count it was around 400 however I haven’t actually checked for a couple of months but I have got rid of a few and gained a few so I suspect I am still hovering around that number.

5) Stickers or Washi?

Washi, always washi. I love stickers but I find washi is more versatile.

6) Rings, Discs or Coils?

I tend to have more ring planners but I do like the other types to. Rings are always my go to though.

Thank you for taking the time to read.

Confessions Of A Plannerholic Q&A

This week’s instalment comes in the form of a Q&A session.

If you have any questions for us please leave them in the comments below or via email at and I’ll put them into the next Q&A session.

1) What is your favourite planner?

My favourite planner currently is the Wellness Planner from Kikki-K. I was using this as a blog planner until recently and have now swapped it over to be my main everyday primary planner.

2) Does your planner have a name? If so what?

Oddly enough this one doesn’t however I have named previous planners and I have got names for my TNs, Inny and Wally:)

3) What is your favourite accessory?

Oh this is hard. I love stickers and a good pen but I think washi is my fav, it’s so versatile and brightens everything up easily:)

4) What is your top planning tip?

This is difficult as I’d have two. My first would be, to be yourself.  Don’t be afraid to be different and unique. Everyone’s process is different. Enjoy what you love.

The second tip would be future planning. Future planning changed my game and improved my organisation so much. I decorate 4 weeks in advance, I plan my blog a month in advance and everything else I possibly can plan for I will. Gives me a sense of much more control.

5) Why Planners?

Hard to say why exactly. It’s more than planners, it’s Stationery. Something that started when I was very young and has developed more as I’ve got older. I love that I gain a sense of control in my life when I wouldn’t necessarily have. They have helped me manage my PND aswell, allowing me to pinpoint triggers and resolving actions:)

6) If you were stuck on a desert island would would your top 5 items be?

Now…well…this is difficult lol.

My washi tub, how handy would that be to stick stuff together.

Paper to write down my adventures.

My pencil write down my adventures and thoughts/feelings.

A lighter, to cook, gain warmth and see in the dark.

A tent, to keep myself sheltered.

7) If there was a zombie apocalypse and you could get to one store but the path was clear to the local supermarket and a Stationery store which would you chose?

I’d initially thought the supermarket however on reflection it would be the Stationery shop. Why? Well no-one else would think to pilage and loot that place. The supermarket is probably already empty of anything of use. Stationery shops usually have food, drink and other stuff. Staff rooms would likely have medical supplies too.

8) If you won 1 million on the Lotto and could only spend it on 3 thinks what would it be?

Oh my word..only 3 lol!

First of all I’d wipe all my student debts. That way life would be cheaper.

Secondly I’d buy my dream home in Canada and move the family out there.

Thirdly I would buy and run a cute bookstore that has charm and comfort. A place people love to be.

I’m really intrigued to see the responses to these from the other girls.
