Writing Resources #1

Every budding writer is constantly on the look out for anything that will help them on their journey. Every published author has a method in which they promote that worked from them. More often than not each of these methods is unique and differs from others. As a result it means that finding information can be overwhelming. However, I stumbled across 2 resources which put information out there which is plain, simple and incredibly helpful.

The first resource comes from Eva Deverell.

Eva has a website, Instagram and Pinterest name packed with information and free worksheets and printables.

Website: http://www.eadeverell.com/

The second comes from Megg Geri.

Again Megg has multiple channels in which she shares information However, the website is amazing. I was also lucky enough to win a digital copy of her book ‘Write A Novel In 30 Days’ and I’ve found it amazing. It really gets you looking not just at methods of writing but at why you write and what inspires you. I would absolutely love this in a print version.

Website: https://megg.me/

Link to the book: https://gumroad.com/l/writeanovelin30days#

Here is a little look at the things I printed from both sites.

As you can see there are many different forms of information.

Hope you find these as helpful as I have.

Thanks for reading.

Writing Prompt #8

Less than 750 words. Flash Fiction. This is unedited and 236 words.

Life. It isn’t as infinite as we are led to believe when we are younger. Carefree, fearfree and living how we see fit. At least that’s how I had lived. Yes that’s right, had lived, meaning that I know longer live. I am here in spirit and consciousness but not in body. No, my body went until the ground little over a week ago.
I watched my friends and family say goodbye, tears flooding their faces. They all kept mumbling about what a waste it was, how senseless an act, how I had so much to live for.

They all thought it, they couldn’t rationalise but then why would they. They hadn’t lived like I had. On the outside I was fun, loved, had friends and most of all, I was happy.
That wasn’t the case on the inside though. I lived with secrets, dark dark secrets. Those secrets ate away at my soul and made my head cloudy with grey thoughts. I had to escape it all. The fear, the regret and the possibility that they would discover the real me.

Now I don’t feel anything. I float among the ethereal clouds with all the other lost souls. I don’t have regret, I don’t have fear and I don’t feel bad. I suppose you are wondering what happened, why am I now this way. Well you shall find out, this is the story of me.

The train pulled up and he gave her a squeezing big and kissed her lips softly. She cried as she got on the the train and he turned and started to leave.

He heard the train pulling out and he turned to see it leave. After a few minutes he sighed and went to leave. However, there amongst the Steam he saw the outline of a lady, as she walked closer he saw it was her.

Writing Prompt #5

You know the drill… or you thought you did. The goalposts moved on this one. 100 words. I didn’t realise and wrote one over 400, so for this I have done 2 different ones for each word count.

Story Number 1 – 407 Words

Riley ran through the thick Forest as quick as his legs could carry him. This had been a great idea, until it wasn’t. Professor Liney had sworn that the machine would work and take him back. What Riley didn’t realise was just how far back he was going.

Opening the hatch he was confronted by a burning red sky barely visible through the dense canopy of the tree above. These trees were something to marvel at, they must have been ancient. Massively thick trunks and towering higher than most of the 4 story buildings in Riley’s town.

After Riley had finished admiring the view and his heart had slowed to a pace that wouldn’t kill him he decided to get out and have a quick walk about. He couldn’t believe the Prof’s machine actually worked, or that he was daft enough to be the first to test it.

Riley looked around. He didn’t recognise any of the plants or flowers that grew around the space he had landed. Most were taller than him standing at least 7 foot tall. The colours were bright and vivid against the greens of the underbrush. Riley checked his watch. He had 18 minutes before the machine would take him back to reality.

There was a noticeable drop in the temperature and silent had descended. He didn’t realise he was aware of the animals and birds until they stopped making any noise. The ground began to quake as he heard a *thud thud thud* of footsteps. The leaves were shaking around him, he knew it was time to leave.

Riley ran back to the machine pod as quickly as he could. Whatever was approaching was getting closer and he didn’t want to be there to face it.

The ground was slippy and he was struggling to stay upright. Luckily he hadn’t gone far, just a few more strides and he would be there.

Once he approached the pod he quickly got in and bolted the door shut. Riley strapped himself into the chair and turned the machine on to signify he was ready to depart. Seconds felt like hours and the machine whirred to life. Across the dashboard the digits 2017 flashed up. Riley was going home. Just as the machine started to fade out he saw a huge T-Rex burst through the trees and head straight towards him. Riley had never been so pleased to be heading back to his world.

Story Number 2 – 95 Words

If you could live forever would you? If time was no object would you work hard to achieve your dreams as soon as possible? Or would you perhaps go live and enjoy life without the worry?

These are the questions Lulu frequently asked herself. You see Lulu was a magician and she could bend time. What she wanted more than anything though was to test how people would like with infinate time. Lulu didn’t know how old she was, she couldn’t remember how she came into being. All she know is what she was, everlasting.

Writing Prompt #1

Over in my favourite writing group one of the lovely Admin set us a challenge. To write a shirt piece of flash fiction under 800 words using the above prompt.

I wrote a piece just over 400 words (407).

It’s unedited and I didn’t think about what I wrote. I didn’t have any idea where I was going with it but I enjoyed it non the less.

Here is what I wrote.

Stillness…it crept around him. Paranoia seeped into his bones. He couldn’t her her, he felt her. A chill ran up his spine, the hairs on his arms stood on end.

Paranoid is what they had called him. Delusional and paranoid. He wasn’t. He sensed the eyes around him. He felt the breath on his neck when he laid in bed in the dark.

He knew they were there. Her in particular. She scared him but soothed him. He knew she whispered to him in the dead of the night. He knew it was her moving things around his room. Why didn’t she show herself?

He believed in them, the pixies. He knew they existed. His grandmother had told him when he was younger. His sister just thought they were fairy tales told by a Kooky old lady but he knew better. He’d seen the light in her eyes.

They were there now, in the dark. He didn’t dare move, he didn’t want to scare them.

He whispered “I know you are there. I can sense you.  Please don’t hide”

He heard tiny footsteps running. His heart sunk, they were leaving him again.

All of a sudden the lamp flicked on. He moved his head slowly to where it sat on the bedside table.

There she was, facing her back to him. He moved forward slowly. Edging closer. She turned, slowly.

He screamed! He didn’t expect her to look like that. Her head bigger than her body, her face distorted like a crazed beast in a horror book. Her mouth, wide…sharp pointed teeth smiled at him. She hissed.

“Aren’t you glad you wanted to see us now?

He stood shaking, shock registered on his face. Delayed his reaction to run, to hide. A minute or two passed by, his nerve to leave lessened with each second.

He must be crazy, he took a step towards her. She sneered but didn’t make a move towards him.

Was he suppose to fear her? She looked as if she should be feared but she gave off an aura that told him he was safe.

He took more steps towards her so he was at the bedside table.

She looked at him, her eyes sad. He held out the palm of his hand and she walked onto it.

“I won’t hurt you, if you won’t hurt me” the Pixie said.

He replied “I never want to hurt you, you’re safe with me

Writing Prompt #4

I think you all know the rules by now. Less than 750 words, flash fiction.

The light fractured into pieces along the wall. The curtains pulled shut allowed little light into the room, but enough to notice every car that passed.

I lay on the bed trying to focus my breathing. To let my subconscious take hold. I was told that meditating will help, easier said than done when you’re stuck in a motel room right on the highway. So much for peace.

I still had the hospital gown on that I’d escaped in. My feet red raw and bleeding. Walking for miles barefoot in this climate wasn’t ideal. The dusty dry roads scattered with pebbles, stones and Sandy grit.

I’d been here now for 2 hours, I snuck in the room through the bathroom window, I shouldn’t be here and I hoped that no one would rent to room tonight. There was some small snacks in the fridge which I had eaten when I got here but now my stomach groaned in protest at the amount of crap I’d consumed.

I needed to get away from the doctors. They were just doing there job, I get that but I needed space to work through this. I was told it was an accident. I was walking down the road when a car came ploughing into me which had left me in a coma for 13 days. When I awoke I had no idea who I was or where I was from. They had not found any I.D on me and my DNA wasn’t on record. I was a non-dead Jane Doe.

I kept getting flashes of memories but never enough to grasp anything from. I had the feeling that may be this was the universe telling me my life was bad before and I was given a fresh start to reinvent myself. I could be anyone. I could have children or a husband, I could be a serial killer. I had no idea.

The only identifying thing I had were the tattoo’s that were down my arms, shoulders and back. I wondered what my inspiration had been when I got them. I liked them, tomorrow I am going to see if any of the studios in town recognise the work.

I figured if I couldn’t meditate then I should at least try to get some sleep. I blocked the door with the side unit so at least I would have time to get out should someone try and enter.

I got into the bed and it didn’t take long for me to fall into a deep sleep.

I woke to the sound of a car pulling up. It was just getting light and the wall clock showed it was 5.53am.

I got out of the bed, straightenedthe covers and eat some more snacks, filling my coat pocket with more. I was grateful I had the coat, at least people didn’t stare so blantely when I walked past.

I crawled out of the bathroom window the way I had came and walked around to the main building. It was still and quiet with the exception of a lady dressed in a business suit getting into her car.

I walked over to her and said hello.

” Oh, hello” she replied

I’m sorry to bother you but I was wondering if you were heading into town? My friends thought it was funny to take my shoes and I’d rather not walk back barefoot again’

She looked down at my feet, glazing over my long coat.

‘Urm, sure. Yes I can take you there. I have a pair of old squash shoes if you would like to wear them?’

‘That would be very kind of you, thank you’

The lady walked to the boot of her car and got some old battered white shoes out and have them to me. I opened the passenger door and slide in. The car smelt like fresh pine and was immaculately clean.

We drove in silence, I didn’t know what to say and she clearly didn’t either. When she pulled up to the road I got out.

‘Thank you for the lift.’ I said poking my head through the window.

‘You’re welcome, sorry I didn’t catch your name’

I thought for second before replying,

‘My name is Andrea, Andrea Riley’

And with that I turned and walked away. That was my name now, one I had claimed until I could find out who I really was.

Writing Prompt #2

2nd Prompt of July. Decay. Less than 750 words and unedited.

‘I locked eyes with the coyote as it stood across the street from me.

Rooted to the spot, my feet wouldn’t  move. I didn’t know whether it was through fear or fascination.

It looked as it was considering me, considering what It’s options were. It looked as shocked to see me as I was to see it.

With a sudden burst it dashed across the street and went down the alley way. I walked slowly to see where it was but I could no longer see it.

Could this day get any weirder?

Things had been strange from the moment I woke this morning. My senses heightened. I could hear the conversation the neighbours were having over the road. I could smell the food cooking 3 doors down. My carpet didn’t just feel soft against my feet, it felt like heaven. I tried to remember the previous night. Had I been drugged? I know I was drunk, I remember being at the club, all the drinks and the shots we had. The last thing I remember though was Fraiser slurring words at me I didn’t understand. We were still in the club then.

Then there were the scratches, my arms were covered in them and his neck. What on earth had I gotten into?

And where was Frasier? I called him 7 times this morning. He surely would have some answers as to what went down. He probably got us in another fight, seems to be all to regular lately.

I continued down the road. The sun hidden behind the clouds still blinded me. The smell of decay from the nights bins floated in the breeze. I didn’t know where to go, I just needed coffee. Lots of coffee.

I became aware of the black car before it turned the corner, there was something about it that didn’t sit right with me. I felt my pulse quicken. It slowed as it passed me, I could smell it stronger then. The smell of rot. I assumed it was the bins but it was this car. What the hell was inside it to smell like that.

I felt like a hole the size of planet open in the pit of my stomach, dread oozed from my bones. Fear, genuine unadulterated fear poured from me. Whatever this car contained was not something I wanted to come into contact with and with that thought I turned and ran.’

Life Documented 2017

Hey Everyone,

I have posted previously about creative journaling that I do. Up until recently it was something I did to celebrate or mark an occasion or memory. This meant that I could go weeks without doing a page.

I had seen the lovely Geraldine mention on her BlogYouTube and Instagram something called The Documented Life project. Unfortunately the original project doesn’t run anymore however there is a Facebook group set up for a 2017 similar version.

Each week on the Life Documented 2017 Facebook group and blog a Prompt and Quote are posted for you to follow. There is also a monthly overall theme. Of course you don’t have to stick to the themes and you can do use your own ideas.

I didn’t start this journey until February but I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I really like the prompts and quotes as they force me to be more creative and think out of the box.

I will be posting regular updates on this project.

Right, let me go through the spreads so far I have undertaken which are all in my Webster’s Traveler’s Notebook.

My first week was Week 5.

Challenge: to incorporate a Zentangle or doodle in my journal.

Prompt: “Do not fear mistakes – there are none.” Miles Davis

Week 6

Challenge: Layers

Quote: “I love Layers” Alexander Wang

For this spread I actually did the ballons and tree’s as fold up flaps so I could write within them as you can see on the 2nd picture.

Week 7

Prompt: Valentine’s

Quote: Even after all this time, the sun never says to the earth “Look you owe me” Look what happens with a love like that, it lights the whole sky – Hãfiz

For this spread I chose to do heart ballons for the week days amongst a night sky. Using quote on the tag.

And that is me up to date. This week’s spread is something that has taken me completely out of my comfort zone and made my inner perfectionist cry, but that’s a good thing!

Thanks for reading.
