Life Update!

Wow! August already, who can believe it. This year is flying by isn’t it.

July has been the oddest month for me and my little life.

So if you’ve read my last 6 Months update you will know I got a part time job, a job which I lost yesterday due to Childcare conflicts. I’m a bit gutted about the money but glad to have Saturdays with the family back.

I am still volunteering at Gisborough Priory and love it.

Now for the exciting parts. I launched a new business selling a book subscription box. This isn’t just a box you get in the post, it’s also membership into a bookclub.

We have discussions about books, competitions, Subscriber Houses, giveaways and so much more. Every box is personalised too.

I’ve set up a Goodreads, Instagram and Facebook group for it and so far it’s doing brilliantly. I sold all the boxes in the first few days.

Secondly I was contacted by Future House Publishing who have asked me to join there Alpha Reader Reviewer team. Which I accepted! Who doesn’t want to recieve ARC and books to review free! I love love love doing this.

Thirdly I was contacted by Rebecca From Dodopad who told me Steve Morton from Philofaxy had recommended me as an influential blogger in the plannersphere and asked if I would like to receive the new Dodopad Block Paper pads to review.

I jumped at the chance. I’ve always liked Dodopad and I’m excited to see how there notepaper compares to others.

I received the items on Friday and conducted experiments yesterday so that review post will be up later this week.

So my main focuses going forward are my blog, business and reviewing. I aim to improve my writing and posts and hopefully can make that all take off so I can earn a little money from it while trying to figure out working and childcare.

Now I have my Saturdays back I can finally get around to finishing the unpacking and sorting the bedroom out, rearranging the girls bedroom ready for the toddler bed, set my desk up for work and sort out a reading corner.

I’m really happy going forward, I feel full of new possibilities. My focus is where I feel it needs to be.

Thanks for reading.

How Planning Keeps Me Sane

There are many people who don’t get the whole planner thing and that’s fine. We all don’t have to enjoy the same things as each other.

Many times us little planner addicts come under some ridicule for being open about what we enjoy, which can be unfair especially since we all have hobbies some are more unique than others but at the end of the day of something brings a person joy in today’s world then why not? Who are we to criticise?

I enjoy and use planners for various reasons. They do help keep me sane.

I’ve always had a love for Stationery but since I had my 3rd and youngest child (who is now approaching 2yrs old) I never got as involved as I am now.

The primary reason for me to use a planner is to track life and it’s many complexities. Having 3 children,  a partner, a home to manage, working part-time and volunteering can make things quite complicated so this helps simplifiy my routine.

When I first started using a planner I would track my baby’s feeding, illnesses, milestones etc and anything of importance like health visitor visits and such.

Back then I didn’t have a blog or either of my jobs but my memory was always consumed with something and I would sometimes forget things I needed to remember.

Now it still performs the same function as well as tracking all our house expenses, cleaning rota and work commitments.

I have also now implemented a blog planner to properly plan out my posts, track statistics and everything else blog related.

I like to keep all my planners seperate so things don’t get to entwined, I find it much easier to plan this way.

I suffered quite a lot with PND so a planner helped track my moods so I could refer back to my GP easier as I was going the non-treatement route.

Now thankfully the PND usually is on the downlow and I rarely have any issues. It’s not to say that it has gone because it hasn’t I can feel it still there and on the days when it rears it’s ugly head I can write it down. Frequency of things happening helps me pinpoint events that make me feel vulnerable or stressed so I can learn to adapt and handle them differently. It will also point out of I am having a relapse.

Anyone who has had a child will know that having any sort of control over your day often goes out of the window regardless of the good intentions we have.

That’s what a planner does for me. It gives me a sense of control. While I am aware I cannot control everything it means the little I can have some control over I do. The house is a prime example. I know when certain things need cleaning,  bills are due, landlord inspections, tenancy renewals etc.

I would really love to hear from you about why you use a planner, what does it offer you above anything else and if it makes a difference to your life. Please feel free to comment below:)

Brutally Honest Confessions: Normal Women Getting By…

Hello! Welcome to another new blog series/segment and collaboration.

The lovely Michelle over at UglyBugDoes came to me with a suggestion for a new blog collaboration which I really loved.

The idea behind this collaboration is for us to post things about life, what it’s like as a normal, average woman trying to get by in life.

The topics will be everything from the discussion of conception, life with children, girly issues, recipes and anything between.

We really want to write these posts with some brutal honesty, instead of covering everything in sugar and want to remain non judgemental to those who struggle.

We want to write what life is really like, the good, the bad and the downright ugly.

People may not agree with some things we write, it won’t always fall into your way of thinking, but we are all different and have different ways of trying to just get by day to day.

We will have some sense of structure to our posts.  Every fortnight we will release a post regarding children, starting with conception and right the way through covering all topics (pregnancy, newborn etc).

Then every other week will be something else whether that is about make-up, cooking, career, books, films etc.

We are quite happy to take point from our readers, if you have topics you want us to cover or would like to write to us then please do so on the email below, if you wish to remain anonymous please say this also as we will do so.

Please feel free to join our Facebook Group for updates and general ranting banter:)

Now the intro is done here is my first post:)

So today I am going to discuss the miracle of my “whoopsie” conception.

Not every story of pregnancy, birth and raising a child starts with a plan…the trying for a baby stage, ovulation tracking, the misery of the failed attempts. Some stories start with an accident,  a whoopsie moment or in my case failing to take your pill – not lots…just one!

Even though I refer to what happened as a whoopsie it doesn’t mean it is any less miraculous than those baby’s that are planned.

December 2013, the month and year that changed my life. I was happily working in a brand new job I loved and was treated with respect, I had met a man who I clicked with and really felt was my soulmate and my other two older children were really happy. Everything was going perfect.

I had no interest in having a baby, I hadn’t planned to ever be pregnant again, I already had everything I needed.

Then BOOM it all changed. When I found out I was pregnant I honestly didn’t know how to feel. Was I Happy, sad, scared, fearful? Yes, I was everything…you name it I felt it.

How would my partner of 3 months react?

How would my children feel?

Would I keep my new lovely job?

Would I get very sick again?

Am I crazy?

My partner and I had only been together 3 months and we had just moved in together with his brother. Even though I worked with him previously and we had known each other for a while it was still new.

I didn’t know how this would work. Everything felt so complicated.

Having a termination was never a consideration, it was never a thought. This baby was going to happen and my partner was ecstatic, one less thing to worry about.

The kids were overjoyed…another thing not to worry about.

The sickness kicked in…urgh….

Everything would be ok, I’d raised children before,  I knew what it would entail…it’d be a breeze right? Yes, lets all laugh in unison at that statment!

Just because this baby wasn’t planned didn’t make it any less special back then in those early days I didn’t realise how much of a life changing Miracle this baby was going to be, if I had I would have never doubted myself so much.

So this is my story…my conception. Not all candles and Barry White. The reality of missing contraception and fear!

Thank you for reading and remember to pop along to UglyBugDoes for Michelle’s post:)
