Planner Productivity: Setting Realistic Targets

Welcome to another instalment of the Planner productivity series. Last time we discussed the importance of effective working methods which can be read here for those who missed it.
Today the focus will be on the importance of setting realistic targets.

When undertaking tasks it is always necessary to set realistic and achievable targets.

Usually there is so much we would like to get done but this doesn’t always correlate to what ‘needs’ to be done and that often leads us to be our own worst enemies by settings goals which are unrealistic and cannot be achieved.

When this happens we feel like we are failing which is an unfair accusation which we put on ourselves.

I am going to show you some tips to remember when you are setting targets for yourself.

  1. Know what you are capable of and what skills you have. If the task ahead is not to your strength work out if it is something that you are realistically able to achieve and to what standard you think you can complete to.
  2. Before agreeing to and setting any task goals find out everything you can about what is expected of you, how complex it may be and what deadlines are being asked.
  3. If you need specific resources make sure you’ve checked their availability and set your target in accordance with this.
  4. If the deadline is flexible set mini deadlines for yourself to complete the work. It is easy to get distracted when you don’t have a specific time or date to work too. Setting your own deadline will help keep you accountable for the work that needs to be completed.
  5. If you need help, guidance or assistance then ask. There isn’t any shame in admitting at times you need a little help.

I hope you find all these little tips helpful.

Thank you for reading.

Planner Productivity: Effective Working Methods

Moving on from last week’s post regarding Complex Task Management I will today be sharing with you my checklist for effective working methods.

There are certain things which can be done to ensure that you will have maximum focus on your task ahead.

1) Set out any equipment or materials you may need at the start.

2) Always work from a clear space, this helps to declutter your mind to provide maximum thinking potential.

3) Minimise distractions, such as silencing your phone and closing windows.

4) Work methodically.

5) Always make sure you’ve discuss beforehand the expectations by others or yourself for what you want to achieve.

6) Finish one job before starting another.

7) Leave your area tidy. This helps your brain move on from the project ready to apply focus elsewhere.

This post is very short and sweet (just like me) but hopefully there will be a few tips you can take on-board next time you’re working on something which requires focus.

Thanks for reading.

6 Months To Change My Life – 2nd Time Around

Those of you who have read my blog before are aware I have done this previously too. There is a group that I joined just over 6 months ago for the first set of goals. The aim is to set ourselves goals and aims to achieve over the next 6 months that go some way to improving the quality of our life. We all share experiences,  support and sometimes when needed a little constructive criticism.

I really enjoyed the last 6 months and feel I achieved a lot that I had set out to so it was a no brainer to start again for another 6 months with new goals.

This time I’ve set out my goals for what I want at the end of the 6 months and have broke them all down into monthly goals.

As of yet I’ve not drawn up my blog and career goals simply because I really want to have a huge focus on my home life and health this time. So I will update with those goals later this week.

I have wrote one primary focus down for October and will be using the tracker supplied in the new Carpe Diem. Each month I will chose a different high focus area to work on. I want to try and instill a habit over the 30 days so a tracker becomes unnecessary.

So let’s have a look at my goals;
1) Be More Positive – This is a big one. I always think I am positive but I admit lately it’s to easy to get bogged down and not appreciate things that perhaps I should. My aim here to to write down every single day at least 1 positive thing.

2) Lose 2 stone and eat better – Over the last 6 months I haven’t been as good as I should have.  I really want to shift the weight. This breaks down to 4lb a month, 1lb a week so I feel it’s achievable. My eating habits have started to slip back into snacky eating too so I need to reign it back in.

3) Organise The Paperwork – Given how organised I am in every area of my life this is one area I am not. I have 3 months if not more of filing to catch up on. I must get this done and a system in place.

4) Be More Financially Responsible – The biggest part of this is to stop emotionally spending. I also want to start paying more off my credit card each month to reduce this right down. With Birthdays and Christmas over these 6 months I need to spend much better than I do.

5) Have A Better Home Life – This is quite broad but covers things such as: more time offline, more time as a family,  date nights, sorting Alexis’s bedtime routine out again. Everything that has been not great over the last 6 months needs improving.

That’s it for my main goals. I may have only 5 but there are some biggies in there.

As you can see from the page below I have wrote these out and put them into my planner along with the monthly focus tasks.

UKPA although set out originally as a planner group is about so much more. The help and support from this group of people is massive.

6 Months To Change Your Life Update 2

image

Well it’s that time again! Time to weigh up what I’ve achieved this month and what I’ve failed to achieve.

I honestly felt like I hadn’t done much at all but when I was reflecting over the month I realised I had actually done a fair bit.

I’m finding that having a commitment to posting this update helps a lot in my motivation to get things done!

So let’s look at my achievments for the month.

* Assembled all the new furniture
* Rearranged the living room and decluttered
* Requested permission to redecorate
* Finished reading Beautiful Creatures
* Had more family time
* Alexis started nursery, I finally bit the bullet
* Had two date nights with my other half
* Sorted Alexis’s bedroom
* Moved Chloe into Alexis’s room
* Massive toy declutter and listed on FB groups
* Started a new e-course
* Bought a blog domain
* Started creative journaling
* Sorted the garden
* Met up with some friends
* Became a member of the UglyBugDoes design team

All in all it’s actually been a pretty productive month. I’ve been Ill the last week so I feel like if it wasn’t for that I may have got more accomplished.

Next month my goals are:
* Unpack and sort bedroom boxes
* Organise Adam’s room
* Book Declutter
* Sort out the shed
* Sort out two kitchen units
* Bin the big box outside
* Finish Spark Joy book
* Finish an e-course
* Work on organising the big northern planner meet.

Everything seems achievable if I put the effort in and don’t get side tracked.

I have noticed over the last few months that distraction and procrastination seems to be a massive thing for me. The time I get to myself is rather limited so when I do get some I want to indulge in something purely relaxing (episodes of Gilmore Girls and Vanderpump Rules currently take this spot).

I am really trying to work on changing this as I do feel much better when I can tick things off my list.

I’d love to hear how you are doing on your journey:)

Living Room Décor and Colour Scheme

Phonto

When I was younger I always thought that I’d end up in a position where I could go out and buy everything I wanted for my home in one go. Little did I realise that the reality of this happening was pretty slim.

As most of you will know, these things take time. You build up the items you want, save for the ones you desire and usually in the meantime have the most mismatched collection of furniture and accessories.

Since we’ve moved I have really been working on themes of rooms in our home. Looking into the types of items I want in there, the colour schemes I want and the style of furniture I’d like.

So far I have at least come up with my living room style. I am really happy with what I have picked for this in regards to the colour scheme and accessories.

I have so far managed to get a few key pieces towards my ultimate style.

The colours I have picked are shades of some of my favourite, but together I think they look really nice. I adore the wallpaper also and will be looking for this or something similar.

Our main furniture is the sofa and chair which we got from DFS. It is the Revive suite in charcoal grey.

Next the furniture which I want to compliment the colour scheme are these pieces from Ikea and Next.

We ordered the Ikea Kallax unit and some baskets which I have now set up and will post towards the end of this article.

When it comes to lighting I really like the rustic look and I came across these little beauties. The lamp is from Next and the candle holder was from Willko.

I wanted luxurious curtains that would blend my colour scheme together and a dark pole to put them on, metal preferably over wood. The pole below was found in Wilko’s and the curtains from Tuiss.

Other accessories I have chosen are just small things which would set the room off really nicely. I am also on the lookout for older bound books for decoration and the bookcase.

The majority of items I have picked are from Next, the new catalogue had some amazing pieces which suited my theme amazing.

So far we have managed to get some of these items and start working towards building the room which we desire and the look that we aim to create. As you will see in the photo I have now exchanged the little locked basket for some books which I found in my local charity shop.

So there you have it, this is everything I imagine for my room. I still have not finalised the styling I want in any other room yet but as I do I will post my thoughts with you.

6 Months To Change My Life Update 1

image

I know it’s technically going into the 3rd month now and I should have got around to this sooner but as they say it’s better late than never.

I have achieved quite a chunk of my list over tha last two months and overcome some of the bigger hurdles which will now allow me to move forward much easier.

So what exactly have I achieved over March and April?

* I moved home – somewhere smaller, cheaper and closer to family.
* I enrolled on several e-courses.
* I completed Criminology Beyond Crime e-course from Open University.
* Paid off a huge chunk of debt.
* Reworked my payment plans.
* De-cluttered the kitchen.
* Ordered new wardrobes and a shelving unit with baskets.
* Improved blog post content and frequency as well as updating the theme I use.
* Set up new blog planner.
* Got a haircut and made more effort to style it daily.
* Started a new fiction book series.
* Ordered Spark Joy
* Attended a planner mini meet and met new people.
* Increased family time.
* Ate more fruit and drank more water.
* Lost 3lbs

I still have a long way to go but I’m starting to lay foundations down.

For this month my aims are:
* Put up and assemble the new furniture.
* Request permission to redecorate.
* Finish 1 book.
* Pay off 1 debt.
* More dedicated family time.
* Less online time.
* Date with my OH.
* Organise and sort Alexis’s room.
* Toy Declutter and sell.
* Start new e-course.
* Eat better
* Loose 7lbs.

I’m really hoping that things will start to come together in May and although many of the the changes are small they will have a huge impact overall.

Here’s to a month of good progression.

Positivity In My Planner

I have a section in my planner dedicated to Inspiration. Part of that is everything to do with keeping me positive.

To start with I have my gratitude wheel. I have this at the front as It is my go to thing when I need a bit of a nudge in the right direction and I am feeling sorry for myself.

DSC_0016

After this I have my Mission Statement. This is my mission to myself for 2016.

DSC_0017

Next I have a list of Affirmations. I need to add some quotes to this too as I currently have them all set up in my Leuchtturm.

DSC_0018

I then have my top list for remaining positive. Suffering from depression means that some days are really bad days and it takes a bit more to pull myself up. I like having this list as a quick go to for ideas to try.DSC_0019

Finally I have my life goals map. This is to remind me of the things I want in life. Been positive is a must If I want to achieve even a fraction of these things. It’s always good to remind myself what it is I want and what I have to keep fighting for. This is my purpose!

DSC_0020

I am sure this part of my planner will continue to evolve as I find things that give me inspiration and keep my outlook on the up.

Do you have a journal or section dedicated to positivity and/or inspiration?

Planning Your Goals and Achieving Your Dreams.

After reading numerous ‘self-help’ books I have given a lot of serious thoughts to what I really want from life. I am 33 almost 34 and not getting any younger.
I’ve always felt that life has been pretty average,  I haven’t been seriously unhappy with it all overall but I haven’t been ecstatically happy either.
I have always blamed certain circumstances for me not quite achieving the things I want, excuses for my lack of effort. Whether it is the fact I have the children to consider, not earning enough money,  not earning any money etc, there is always something.

The reality is though that non of these things really stop me, I allow them to become excuses because I either fear rejection or failure or it just feels too hard.

I want to tell my children and really believe it when I say “You can do anything you want”, the best way to show this though is for them to see it through me.

image

So I wrote down what I wanted and with the help of The Miracle Morning I started visualising myself living my desired life.

Once I have this done I then took each dream and wrote a list of goals that I would need to achieve in order to have the dream become a reality.

Once I had it all seperated down step by step I looked at the easiest/first steps of each and then narrowed it all down to prorities. What did I need to start with and what would come next. Each goal taking me a step closer to the dream.

image

Doing it this way makes things feel manageable and realistic. I want to live in Canada and that is no longer a pipe dream, it’s something that I can actively work towards, many of my goals intermingle and lead that ultimate big dream.

You need to ask yourself some questions when looking at what you want from life and be 100% honest in your answer.

I asked myself
1) Are You Happy in all areas of your life? (health, financial, career, home, family, friends, spiritual, relationship)
2) If not, why? What is missing?
3) If achieving just one of these goals would change your outlook and positivity?
4) Would I be happy not trying vs trying and failing?
5) What do you have to loose?

I personally believe if you want something enough you cannot fail, you can get knockbacks but you cannot fail.

Things to Remember :
~ EVERYTHING is achievable.
~ Faith in yourself is a necessity.
~ Don’t let anyone make you feel unworthy.
~ Surround yourself with positive people and distance yourself from those who bring you down.
~ Your desire for a better life will be stronger than your fear of failure.

This is a bit of how I have organised my Life Goals 🙂
