UglyBugDoes October Box

*Disclaimer – I received this box free of charge for being a member of Ugly Bug Does Design Team. This does not influence my opinion in anyway and all my comments are my own*

“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”… That’s what I am singing with this amazing box.

This is such a bittersweet post as it is my last month as part of the design team as Michelle has decided to try a different way to manage and promote the boxes.

This is by far my favourite of all the boxes I have been lucky enough to receive.

So without further ado this is what was included;

* Sticker Kit themed for winter.

* Snowman sticky notes

*Snowflake metal paperclip

* Blue fine point nib pen

* Winter themed charm

The snowflake clip was my favourite item, unfortunately it has gone walk about and Michelle is kind enough to send me another YAY!

The New Rapesco 6 Hole Punch! Review

*Disclaimer :I received this item free of charge in exchange for an honest and unbiased review*

I already owned the previous style Rapesco punch in black. I loved it, yes it was a faff about to do A5 but once you mastered it then it was easy as pie.

However when I heard about the new ones in various colours and with a punch guide I got a bit excited. Rapesco contacted me after I tweeted about them and asked if I’d like to try one as they were not available to purchase yet.

I’m not daft and said yes, of course! So along arrived the pretty pink punch.

The punch actually came with a hole punch instruction and paper size guide which was great.

In order to do A5 you still need to flip the page the same way you did with the previous style punch except it is much easier with the pull out size guide.

The holes were spot on for my a5 planner. I managed to punch 10 sheets no problem of the paper I had which is more than I could with my last.

All in all this hole punch is definitely a step up from the previous model. There still isn’t any more information on when they will be released or for how much but you can find there range here.

Below are a couple more images of the new punch.

If I hadn’t got one I would definitely buy one!

Loving the new vertical layout from the Carpe Diem Ballerina planner, it is actually making me much more productive than I was previously.

Life Update August + 5 Year Plan

1473489815467.jpg

It’s that time of the month again where I discuss my successions and failures of the last month. In all honesty I can’t say there has been much going on in the way of successes. I managed to read 9 books this month which was a success I guess. I also am writing reviews for two more sites, one of which I now get paid for..yay!

The kids having summer holidays and my hospital trip have pretty much meant that I haven’t got half as much done that I would have liked. I did however have a nice summer with the children which is the most important thing.

My business launched at the beginning on August and is doing well, people have been incredibly generous in their reviews.

The blog fell a little by the wayside due to everything going on and I admittedly have struggled with content, however I have renewed vigour now and determination to get things back on top and better. I will be creating a blog topic schedule which will make things easier as I have been posting a little randomly with content.

I have felt like I have been stuck in a bit of a rut, I mentioned in a previous post my planners don’t seem to be helping much lately, I am not using them as I was which means they are sitting redundantly on my shelf while I figure things out. Once the Ballerina comes though that will easily pick back up. I start college next week which I am really excited about too.

So my new blog schedule will be:

Monday (fortnightly): Confessions of …

Tuesday: Planner / Stationery related

Wednesday: Book Review and TSG Website post

Thursday: Draft, Edit and Admin work

Friday:  TSG Website post

Saturday: Life Update Posts and Book Review

Sunday: My Week/Plan with Me and Picks of the Month

I have also been thinking long and hard about my career and where I want it to go. Thanks to Michelle over at UglyBugDoes I have been inspired to create a 5-year plan.

Where Were You 5 Years Ago?

5 years ago I was living in Guisborough, unemployed and working for Victim Support as a volunteer hoping to gain entry to paid employment within the same sector.

Where Will You Be Living in 5 Years?

In an ideal world I would be living in Canada in a log cabin. Somewhere the kids would love to be. I love the idea of living close to the wilderness, somewhere cold and full of culture. I have wanted to live in Canada for as long as I can remember and for me this would be the ultimate place. However, I know realistically speaking that won’t happen for at least 10 years.

In 5 years I would like to think that I have purchased my own home and am at least part way saving to immigrate. Staying in my local town of Guisborough.

What Job Will You Be Doing?

By then I would have liked to have completed education in Business, Accounting and Copyediting and Proofreading. I would like to hope that my brand is still going and is really strong. I would also like to hope that I am reviewing books for a living, preferably copyediting and proofreading for an income.

What 5 Things are most important to you right now?

  • Family – Getting Alexis sorted into a better routine and getting her settled.
  • Finances – Find employment and to get my business generating an income
  • Career – To complete the Business course I am due to start
  • Finances – To clear debts as soon as possible
  • Health – To lose weight and get fitter

Top 5 Business and Career Goals?

  • Promote TSG Bookclub and increase revenue
  • Learn about analytics and SEO for the blogs
  • Learn How to Proofread and Copyedit
  • Work for a successful publisher reviewing, proof-reading and editing
  • Own my own successful brand and business.

Top 5 Family Goals?

  • Get Alexis settled into a sleep routine again
  • Spend more quality time with Adam and Chloe individually
  • Get a larger house
  • Get a Pet
  • Have a happy household

Top 5 Personal Goals?

  • To be happy in what I do
  • To have more free time
  • To lose at least 3 stone
  • To start running
  • To eat better

Now that it’s all written down I have no excuse not to see things through. I shall as always drop in with updates and if you are interested in following Michelle’s progress then please pop along to www.uglybugdoes.me .

My Planner Inserts Review

image

If you are like me you’ll spend forever trying to find the perfect insert for your planner. You spend a fortune on them just to find out that they don’t work for you.

Some of us are lucky enough to be able to create our own and then there are people like me who just suck at it and printing double sided isn’t a possibility either.

There are a few great people out there who make custom inserts designed around your specifications. Just – So – Stationery is probably the most thought of and I am currently using some from there.

However I was talking to another lady, Nicola, who said she has also started making custom inserts and offered to send me a free sample.

We discussed at length what it is I would want from an insert and a couple of weeks later my sample arrived. I received a personal and A5 sample.

Both designed the same way however due to the personal nature of some things written on the personal size I do not have any pictures of that size.

I used the A5 size in my blog planner and I have to say the quality is amazing. Printed on 120gsm paper they are thick enough to handle all the pens I tried.

The paper is smooth and has a great sense of quality. The layout was exactly what I had asked for. The only things I would change would be to box my days and have black rather than grey ink both of which were my choice.

I really like them and will definitely be looking at purchasing some when my current inserts run out.

A5 Everyday Planner Set-Up

image

For those who have read my previous posts you are well aware I have so much love for my personal purple Malden. I’ve been using this as my main planner now since August, and personal size for over a year.

However I was feeling the need to change it up, go bigger. I may not have a busy life but as I didn’t want to crowd my pages I wouldn’t note a lot of things. The a5 allows me to write down everything I want to write down without feeling page clutter.

I decided to use my a5 pink Carpe Diem. I do have the new Ballerina Carpe Diem on pre-order and will swap to that in August if I am still happy using the A5 size.

I’m quite happy with this decision as I adore the Carpe inserts and they were just sat unused. I also don’t feel the need to decorate as much with these are they are pretty enough without additional decor.

I have added more sections than the Carpe originally comes with buy adding tabs along the top which then just leaves the side tabs for months.

The sections I have currently are:
* Account and Reference Numbers
* Incomings and Outgoings
* Contacts
* Notes
* To-Do
* Expenses
* April – December

I then have 2 plastic zipped wallets and a cardboard folder wallet.

Please find pictures of my current set up below.

Future Planning and Weekly Checklist

image

Everybody loves to save time, in a society that is constantly looking to be productive and organised there are always tips and tricks to minimise the time we spend doing the tasks we need to get through each week.

I am one of these people, even though I am not currently working I am always on the lookout for ways to be productive with the time I do have.

I rarely get any time to myself and when I do it’s usually spent planning the next day, week ahead, on my blog, reading etc. I like to try and get as much done within that time as I possibly can otherwise it can be a good few days before I get any more time (toddlers are soooo demanding).

Well I thought I would share with you some of my tips and tricks when it comes to planning productivity and my weekly task checklist to ensure I have those little things accounted for.

When it comes to planning there are a few things which I like to do in advance.

1) Decoration – I always decorate 4 weeks at a time. I like to know that everything is ready to use as and when it maybe needed. Some people may not like this as decorating weekly is part of their planning process however I leave my blog planner to do weekly but always pre-decorate my everyday. It’s one less thing for me to worry about.

2) Schedule Tasks – Once I have decorated my 4 weeks I then go through and add in any birthdays, appointments, calls, emails that are upcoming and I schedule in all my tasks such as laundry, rubbish, ironing, hoovering etc. I have a housework schedule that rarely differs week to week so it’s easy enough to do.

3)  Monthly Goals – At this point I usually write up my goals for the next month ahead. What I want to have achieved when it comes to doing my next set of weeklies. This is also handy to look back on to see where you may have failed, mistakes you’ve made and what you’ve learnt

So there are my top top 3 future planning tips.

Each week however I have checklist which I like to do through to ensure that some actions are taken care of but the days can differ week to week.

image

My weekly checklist consists of;

1) Scheduling ‘me’ time – I have to do this to ensure that I remember to look after myself. If I didn’t I’d end up doing housework or things for other people. I also use this time for blog planning, decorating and other planner goodness.

2) Schedule ‘miscellaneous’ time – This is just time where I plan not to plan. This for anything that may pop up that needs dealing with quickly that couldn’t be planned. This to to try and maximise productivity with my other tasks and minimise distractions.

3) Weekly To-Do List – This is pretty self explanatory. I list all the tasks I want done for the week and then prioritise the top 3-5 that are essential.

4) Menu Planning and Shopping List – I don’t plan my meals in advance for each day, instead what I do is write down 7 meals that I want for that week and just tick off which I have when I have them. That way I can be a bit more flexible with how I feel on that day. I also write a shopping list to correspond to what I need.

5) Theme My Days – This is an idea which was originally from Alexis over on Strange And Charmed and it’s very simple and rather brilliant.
Plan your days tasks according to their category, for example; do all house work in the same day, all paperwork in the same day etc. This maximises your focus and makes productivity higher.

There you have it, how I future plan and weekly plan.

If you have any tips or tricks I’d love to know them. I am always looking for ways to improve my process.
