Planner Reflections and 2018 Set-up

Hey everyone.

Can you believe it’s the end of 2017 already? I feel this year has flown by. I haven’t been as active on here over the last few months but I have never been so busy.

Like many people I suffer from twitchy fingers and I have an inability to relax meaning I take on far too much, which for me came crashing down when I got very sick in November.

However, things are on the mend and I’ve really taken stock of 2017 and what I aim to do going forward. Tomorrow there will be a post as part of the Planner Girls Collective where I will share my goals for 2018 so for today let’s reflect over what I’ve changed.

When 2017 began I was in a pocket size TN and enjoying it. About March I swapped back to a ring planner but it didn’t last more than 2 months. Since then I have been in a TN just in various sizes. I have tried personal, micro, A6 and now I’m in B6.

I have cut back a lot on decoration and find I am rarely using washi at all and stickers are more for function and mild decor.

I really have homed in on what I need from a planner and the purpose it should serve. I no longer seek to have that ultimate pretty planner and lust after everyone else’s, it’s simply not for me.

My 2018 set-up is pretty much the same as how I’ve finished 2017 which the exception of one Planner which I’ve introduced.

So what am I using?

For my everyday carry – do everything planner which houses a weekly diary, monthly overview, book reviews insert, to-do insert and 2 notebooks (dot and lined). This will be my B6 Cinnamon Stick Nayadori.

I am also using the beautiful B6 meadowgate for my business which has a simple incoming order tracker, outgoing order tracker and notebook in.

My new addition which is stunning is the Recollections horizontal planner with the Galaxy cover. I am using this for my studies. I learnt at the end of this year I need to plan my studies out much better than I am as my Masters is getting so much focus my diploma has fallen to the wayside.

So there we have it my 2018 set-up. I would love to know what you’ll be using in the new year so feel free to pop me a comment below:)

Study Woes and Pretty Planners

Hey,

Well I have to say that my studies have been a bit of a nightmare so far. I spent most of November really ill and in and out of hospital which has had a massive impact on my studies and I am seriously behind.

My first TMA was due on the 30th November but I was granted an extension until 14th December. It’s now the 13th and I’m still not finished. My toddler was poorly and off nursery and very clingy so I’ve literally just started getting my mornings back.

It’s a 1500 word assignment primarily on the doctrinal approach and the strengths and weaknesses of this approach.

I have about 500 words so far on the strengths and I will type the rest up this morning.

It has been a very interesting topic especially in using mental capacity to highlight the pitfalls of using such an approach. The next block which I am 2 weeks years behind on is regarding the historical approach to legal research, this also looks like an interesting block to do.

I can’t tell you how relieved I am that we have the Christmas break off as it will give me a chance to catch up on everything as I will admit I am starting to feel overwhelmed by how far behind I am. I particularly like to read a lot around subjects and currently don’t feel like I have the option to do it much due to the amount I am behind. It’s a good job I love to study:)

On the plus side I have a beautiful new study planner which I will be using for 2018 and I plan to break things down better so I am always more aware of what’s coming up. I have another TMA due on the 1st Feb and I start Jury Service on 29th January so I must get it done before then as I really won’t have time otherwise.

I am really looking forward to going into the new year. I feel like after this year things can only get better and I want to excel at what I’m doing. I haven’t even looked at my Fiction Writing course since October, that’s my problem with non deadline courses. I’m going to set myself deadlines for that one as well so it doesn’t get left behind especially as writing is important to me.

Anyway that is enough rambling from me thanks for reading:)

P.S for those who are interested, the Galaxy 2018 planner is a Recollections branded planner from Michaels in the U.S. A beautiful soul (Francesca) brought one over for me on her visit to the U.K. The top planner is a Nayadori from Naya Paperie and it is a B6 travelers notebook in cinnamon stick colour

Meadowgate Leather Traveller’s Notebook {Review}

Hey Everyone. Today I’m going to share with you my review for the Meadowgate Leather B6 Traveler’s Notebook I purchased last month.

I had seen these about for sometime and knew I needed to try the B6 size. A fellow planner addict had this colour (Violet) and I fell in love with it.

The wait was agonising as I was desperate to get my hands on it and it really was worth the wait.

The smell hit me as soon as I opened the package. Real leather…it was so nice. The feel is soft and it is really supple and sturdy. The colour changes slightly in different light and it really is stunning.

The quality is amazing, the pockets and spine are great on it. It may not hold a massive amount of books but it easily fits 4-6 in. I didn’t order a wide size which you would need to stuff it with more.

The one I ordered was the Double Acorn design and as you can see from the pictures it’s beautiful. You can purchase one here

Planner Pretties Haul

Hey, how is everyone? Well I hope.

Today I am back with some of my recent purchases. The majority of which are stickers but well, you can never have too many of those right?

First of all let’s look at the UglyBugPlans Watercolour Magic Journalling Kit. I’ve been eyeing this up for a little while. I’m part of Michelle’s tester group and I was lucky enough to get the Watercolour Witches sticker kit but I had to go purchase this as well. It will be perfect for the things I have planned.

Next we have a sticker order from a U.S store than I bought during a Planner Boss Collective sale and the shipping was really low. They took a while to arrive but the quality and designs are beautiful. These are from Templovescrafts

Next we have more stickers from LittleRainbowMoon. No makes the most beautiful stickers and this is by far one of my favourite shops. I bought the oppsie bag (pic 1) and I can only find a slight issue with 3 stickers on 1 sheet. Jo also sent me the beautiful Autumn set which I had lusted after for ages.

Now we have stickers from StickyAcorn. I purchased these just before the shop went digital. They are absolutely gorgeous.

Last but by no means least we have a beautiful charm that was made by my friend Fiona from LittleDragonJewellery. This is the cutest and most gorgeous charm. I am still in awe at the patience that must be required for such small and delicate designs. That Toadstool is smaller than my little finger nail!

So there we go. My recent purchases. I also have a couple more posts for this week as well. My PR Kit from YourWorldOfColour and a review of my Meadowgate B6 Violet TN so stay tuned.

My Writing TN Set-Up

I finally got my writing TN set up completed. A while ago I bought a second hand Meadowgate TN from someone who had customised it with ink droplets and it was perfect.

I finished setting it up yesterday when my friend Kirstyanne brought me a NaNoWriMo insert for it.

(I’ll drop shop links below).

I have put in it;

  • A NaNoWriMo insert
  • A general writing insert full of prompts, info, ideas etc
  • A insert with chapters and writing info for my current work in progress
  • A tasks and notes insert to track everything I need to do.
  • My writing journal

I also have some cheetsheets and resources tucked in the back pocket.

I am so happy with it, not just how it functions but the style of it.

Now for the links.

Leather TN from Meadowgate Leather

NaNoWriMo insert from BugzPlanning

Lined inserts from Paper Trail Notebooks

Task Insert from The Punk Planner

Pumpkin clip from Stitch and Weave

Ravenclaw Dashboard from LalaPlans

Avon 2018 Planner Review

The other day I was browsing the online Avon catalogue while buying a dressing gown for my daughter. As if by magic there was some stationery. Matching pack of 2 notebooks for £8.50 and a planner for £6.50. I bagged this bargain planner as it looked pretty and I was still on the lookout for a desk planner for next year.

The planner arrived and I have to say it’s well worth the low price tag.

The outside is hardback black and white stripes with gold writing, closure band and coils. It’s A5 in size.

You can just see the tabs popping out for the 3 sections within the planner. There is Diary, Addresses and Notes. The tabs are rounded which is a lovely touch and are on dotted grey and white dividers.

The inside is pretty standard. There is an introduction page, week on 2 pages, a-z addresses and lined note paper. The paper quality isn’t amazing but it isn’t bad. It’s white, not too thin but not completely smooth either. I haven’t done a pen test yet. I’ll add a link in separately when I do.

At the very back is a little wallet to slot bits in. It also comes with a Gold pen with blue ink, the pen feels quite cheap if I’m honest. There is a pen loop for it as well.

All in all this is a lovely little budget planner. The only thing it misses is a monthly overview, if it had that then I’d sing it’s praises all day long.

Guest Post: Plan With Hannah

Hi guys!  I’m Hannah and writer of Plan With Hannah.  I feel honored to be writing a guest blog in collaboration with The Stationery Geekette.  Mainly because it was because of Emma that I started blogging in the first place!  And she has helped me so much with it.  We thought we would share with you things we like to list as we are both huge listers!  If you want to read Emma’s list, you’ll have to check out my blog Plan With Hannah.

Listing is something as a woman especially, I think we do more often than we care to admit to! Most of these lists are never written down, they are just stuck in our heads but I have come to learn the power of writing these thoughts down and having actual lists in front of me. I guess the main reason why I function better like this is because I have developed extremely bad baby brain! Do without my lists I really can’t function!

So here are the top 10 things I list…

  1. Chores! This may be really obvious when I look round my house, but having 2 children under 2 mapping out which chores I will tackle on a given day makes it so much easier for me to function!
  2. Shopping lists. I never used to do this. I would do a weekly shop and just pick up anything that looked good. Oh what a mistake I was making. Meal planning has become an essential part of my planning for the following week and I wrote a shopping list on the basis of my meal plan. I still need to get better at checking my cupboards too before shopping, but I’m definitely getting there. I’ve also noticed I can do a weekly shop on a much lower budget, which can only be a good thing with prices of everything rocketing so much!
  3. Weekly to do lists. These are for more than just chores. Anything that I have to do; ie. Phone calls I have to make, blog posts I have to prepare etc.
  4. Daily to do lists. Once I have my weekly list I can then decide which day I need to do what so It can breakdown all the jobs
  5. Birthday list. I make sure all family birthdays are listed in my diary so I never forget them. I’m still not great at getting cards out but I am trying to get better!
  6. My personal goals. So being part of a group that involves encouraging each other to achieve our goals, having these listed is important to me. I have a notebook dedicated to this in my TN and hope that I will be much more successful in achieving all my goals next 6-month cycle. I am planning on setting my own longer term goals too.
  7. Family goals. Gavin and I have sat down and devised 2 lists; a 5-year and 10-year plan. Where we see our lives and what we want to have achieved as a couple. I feel this gives us something to work towards as a family unit and brings us closer together.
  8. Books to read. I am a book reviewer for the Nursing Times website so keeping track of what books I have to read and review is important
  9. Blog posts. I lost all my ideas and then decide which ones to go with and plan my schedule which involves yet another list! Lol!
  10. Finally bucket lists. So I probably don’t do these as often or as decorative as most people but I do create lists of things I want to do in my life or during a certain season (such as Christmas)

So there you have it… My list of the things I list! Ha!

Plan With Me July 10th – 16th

I haven’t done one of these for a while. Mostly because I haven’t been decorating my planners as such. I now live in my micro but I recently sorted a desk area downstairs so have started using my Ban.do large as a desk planner. I put everything in here relating to work, home, meal plans etc and I have it open and out for me to see every day.

I’ve just finished the decor for the week ahead. I went simple black and white with odd bits of colour. Stickers are from numerous shops but mostly the Mambi sticker packs.

I also used some sticky notes to put in for things I like to move about and keep collated.

I really love how this turned out. I forgot how much I enjoyed doing weekly pages:)

Business Planner Set-Up

I made the decision to change my business lately and discovered that I really needed an active business planner. I won this beautiful A5 Finsbury Filofax from a raffle in a group and it was the perfect size for what I needed.

I found these really cute printables on Etsy that seemed to encompass all the little things I would need.

The printables are from PaperScribblesCo

As you can see they work perfectly and have made my business run much smoother.

I am really happy with how this is working for me, and it helps that is seriously pretty:)
