The Village Witch Hocus Pocus Sub Box {August}

Hey Everyone,

Today I bring you an unveiling of the Hocus Pocus Sub Box from The Village Witch. I would like to thank The TVW team for providing me this box for review.

IMG_20180813_161719_647.jpg

This month’s theme was self-reflection and road opening and as always included ingredients to perform a spell, or in this case 2 spells.

Unfortunately I haven’t managed to do these yet, the summer holidays have meant I’ve had no time to myself to be able to get into the headspace and I really want to make the most of it as these spells are so perfect for this point in my life.

So here is what the sub box contained;

Treat Bag

Road Opener Aura Spray

Unlock Your Potentional Oil

Be Brave Incense

Florida Water

Self Reflection Powder

Mojo Bag Herb Mix

Red Velvet Bag

White Candle

Skull and Rose Compact Mirror

Make Your Own Crystal Necklace Kit

As Always these items are all handmade with love and care over at TVW. The Aura Spray smells like lemon polo mints (that’s if you are old enough to remember them).

This box is a great box, the theme is perfect. Heading into the colder months, children back at school and it makes for a great time to renew and refresh ourselves ready for the hectic Winter months that are approaching. September is the perfect time for fresh starts.

You can purchase the sub box here for £30 including p&p. While this is a Traditional Witch shop, the TVW Team work hard to include things in the box suitable for those who are Wiccan.

I would love to know if you subscribe to these boxes. Thanks for reading.

Guest Post: Jennifer Gilmour {Product Review – Brother Label Maker}

IMG_2242

Since I was young I always loved labelling and when I got my first label maker I was in my element. Do you remember those old style label makers that emboss the plastic type tape?

label-maker1(1)

Image from – http://restorationstj.com/the-label-maker/

Is it just me or did you also have the urge to go around and label everything?

It also reminds me of The Simpsons episode in which Bart Simpson goes around labelling every item in his path, oh it made me laugh because that was my childhood and a very stationary geekette moment of course.

My husband has his own printing business and I have been helping out packing and design work. I am at home as a writer so always take his packages. One evening he opened a package and turned to me and said “You will love me for this”… only to see it was an electronic label maker for the packages he sends. I could have hugged him or kissed him but I wanted to print the first label, it was an urge and all the memories had come flooding back!

Hubby’s business- www.outfoxprinting.wordpress.com

I have to admit it wasn’t easy to get started and it was a lot of faff to wirelessly print. The software is basic and thats all it needs to be, it was easy to actually type up and print and thats what we wanted to do so that we sped up the packing process.

Alas my first label was printed and I whipped it off the adhesive and stuck it to my husband, I won’t repeat what was printed here but the Bart Simpson in me came out! Oh how I had so much fun, especially when I discovered the mobile phone app which is much more of a faster process then on the computer. We were covered in stickers but it was ok as it was the complimentary roll. The fun was over and we got all serious about the cost side then. I gladly offer to pack so I can use it and yes I am not ashamed to admit it.

IMG_9430

The label printer we have is the Brother QL-810W and we bought it for around £85, it was worth the investment for this price- this was on the offer price on Amazon at the time. The non sale price is around £193 and I think we would of hesitated a little or had been a little disappointed to have to spend that amount on this device.

printer

Here it is on Amazon- https://www.amazon.co.uk/Brother-QL-810W-Connected-Wireless-Printing/dp/B01NC39W6

Like I mentioned before the installation was frustrating, in fact It took me around 40 minutes to set up both computers and two mobile phones. The software on the laptop and the process to get to print is way longer then on your mobile phone which I do find frustrating as I use the computer the most.

If you are using it for a business element, handmade or crafting then this is a good investment or the sale price as its quick to print labels from the Etsy app.

Happy labelling

Thank You Jennifer for sharing your product review with us today.

Review

What can I say, I am a sucker for a good Vampire book (get the pun there?). I have previously not heard about this author or book but I just had to have a read. Vampire style books are some of my favourite reads. Yes, that does mean I love Twilight but I am ok with this lol. The scene is set from the opening chapter where we learn about a group of bounty hunters who hunt just about everything, including vampires.

The story takes us through different characters chapter by chapter so we get an insight into the minds of everyone who is a major player. I really liked how this was done as it allowed me to see the different perspectives of both vampires and those who seek to destroy them. I have to admit that it was really nice to read a vampire book that wasn’t centered around an unrequited/forbidden love or a love triangle and as such it gave this book a refreshing edge.

The pacing was really well done, the build up to the final chapters was done in a way that kept you anticipating what would happen but didn’t drag so you found yourself bored. I really enjoyed this book and the entire storyline. Jay has done a brilliant job with not only creating a convincing and entertaining plot but also fantastic characters.

I rate this book a solid 4.5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good bit of Vampy book love.

Author Bio

Jay Raven is the author of Gothic chillers and historical horror reminding readers that the past is a dangerous place to venture, full of monsters and murderous men. He blames his fascination with vampires, witches and werewolves on the Hammer Horror films he watched as a teenager, but living in a creepy old house beside a 500-acre wood teeming with bats may have something to do with it.

Wilko Hypernatural Notebook and TN {Review}

Hey Everyone,

If like me you are a member of many a planner group you will have undoubtedly seen people sharing their love of the Wilko TN.

The TN comes with 4 inserts and for only £5 I had to get it and see what the fuss was about. I didn’t just stop there though, I also got the matching washi set and a couple of fliptop coiled notebooks.

The washi is really nice and isn’t overly sticky so it makes it nice and tactile to use. The designs are really pretty.

The coiled notebooks are gorgeous. They are sort of floppy rather than having hard rigid card at the back. The paper is lovely quality. I’ve already started using mine for my studies.

The TN is so much nicer than I expected. It isn’t leather, it’s some sort of plasticy fabric. It comes with 4 gold strings and a 2 poppers at the front so it can account for any chunkiness.

The inserts are lovely quality. You get a daily insert, yearly insert, notes insert and one which has a mix of plain and graph paper. The covers are so pretty.

I decorated the front if my TN with a decal sticker from FabPlannerPrint on Etsy.

This is called the Hypernatural range and there are loads of bits you can get in this design. I absolutely love it and for the cost it is such a bargain.

I’m using the TN as another writing TN for a specific story I’m working on.

I would recommend this for seasoned TN addicts and for beginners.

Feel free to drop me a comment and let me know if you have one and how you are using it.

Thanks for reading.

Euphoria by Jayne Lockwood {Book Promo}

Today I bring you a promotional post for today’s release of Euphoria by Jayne Lockwood. I’ve not had the pleasure of reading this but it sounds unique and captivating.

BLURB

It might take the arrival of an alien being to remind an isolated man what it means to be human.

With a stressful job, his boss breathing down his neck for profitable results, and an estranged wife and daughter, scientist Kurt Lomax doesn’t think life can get much harder. Until a nonbinary extraterrestrial with an otherworldly beauty, captivating elegance, and a wicked sense of humor inconveniently shows up at his apartment.

Vardam watched the destruction of their own world, and they don’t want to see the same thing happen on Earth. They are lonely, and feelings soon develop between them and the supposedly straight scientist—feelings Kurt reciprocates, much to his confusion.

The arrival of cheery interpreter Tom Soames—whose Goth appearance belies a gentle heart—is like a ray of sunshine in the somber lab. He acts as matchmaker for man and tentacled extraterrestrial, unwittingly instigating a national crisis when the news breaks out.

But will a misunderstanding ruin Kurt and Vardam’s chances for happiness together—along with the hope for peace between humanity and the Var?

Wunderkids by Jaqueline Silvester {Review}

Today I bring you a review for the novel Wunderkids, Part 1 – Wildwood Academy. Thank you to The Fiction Cafe Review Group for inviting me to read and review this book.

Blurb…

15-year-old Nikka is invited to attend Wildwood Academy, a prestigious but secret boarding school for talented youth located deep in the Californian mountains. Once there, Nikka quickly falls in love with her bizarre classes, the jaw-dropping scenery and… two very different boys.

However, Wildwood Academy has a dark and twisted secret, one that could cost Nikka the one thing she had never imagined she could lose, the one thing that money can’t buy. It is this very thing that Wildwood Academy was created to steal. Nikka can stay and lose everything, or she can risk death and run.

Review…

Wow, wow, wow!!! What a book. I started this without any expectations and I have been blown away. I enjoyed this so much.

I couldn’t stop reading, everything about it was engaging and kept me needing to read more.

I loved the characters. Nikka is very easy to relate to and you can see why she does the things she does. Her loyalty to her friends is unwavering even in times when they don’t deserve it. Sums is such a fun character, the sort you would want to be friends with for a lifetime. Tristan is cheeky and fun with hidden depth, it’s easy to see why he has kept certain things secret then there is Izaya, the guy who we would all love to hate. Full of hidden depth and charisma he really is irresistable.

Every single one of them brings something to the book, to the overall journey. The read is thrilling and keeps you guessing and the ending….well, I need more.

I am eagerly awaiting the 2nd book in the series, I desperately want to know more now. Just when you think you have got it there is a twist and you don’t have a clue.

The writing is done so well that you find yourself immersed into the world of Wildwood and it’s students.

Jaqueline gets a massive 5 stars from me on this book. Absolutely fantastic!

Birchbox June {Review}

The other week an advert popped up for Birchbox, having been a previous subscriber I knew these boxes well. The special deal was 2 boxes for £10, one of whch was the gorgeous metal tin box I had seen advertised previously.

Feeling like I was in need of a bit of a pamper I decided to go ahead and order. I had swapped to My Little Box from these as I wasnt overly impressed with the contents but given that was aound 3 years ago I thought it would be worth another go.

I have to say that Birchbox have upped their game. I was much more impressed with these boxes than the ones they did all those years ago and I would say they defintely compete on the market for value for money now.

So, I know that you arent really interested in my previous dealings and just want to see the goodies. Without futher ado, here are the boxes I received;

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

The boxes themselves are great. I love the tin but I also love the drawer style box and the pattern and design used.

As for the contents, I was really happy. I love the little handbag size sunscreen, the shower foam smells divine and I will absolutely be purchasing the full version. The anti-frizz hair cream works a treat as does the volume spray. I have not tried the other products yet but I am looking forward to the face masks.

Overall I am happy with this box and once my finances improve I will be looking to become a monthly subscriber.

You can find out more about Birchbox here.

Thanks for reading.

Blog Tour: A Vicarage Wedding by Kate Hewitt {Review}

Good Morning,

Today I bring you a review for the book A Vicarage Wedding by Kate Hewitt. Thank you to Kate and Jenny from Neverland Book Tours for inviting me to take part.

Blurb…

Rachel Holley has always dreamed of a wedding—the white dress, the fairy tale, and of course, the happily-ever-after. But when her fiancé breaks it off the night before, claiming she doesn’t love him, Rachel’s fairy tale ends in ashes.

Homeless, hopeless, and feeling like her life has been completely derailed, Rachel must start over in all sorts of ways—and hold her head up high in the fishbowl of her tiny village. The last person she expects to become a friend is Sam West, the taciturn owner of The Bell, Thornthwaite’s rougher pub, and a little rough around the edges of himself.

But as Rachel gets to know Sam, and sees him caring for his orphaned nephew, she finds herself drawn to this enigmatic man. Nothing about Sam is what Rachel expected in a life partner, and yet she can’t deny their increasing closeness. But can love flourish on the rebound? And will there be a vicarage wedding after all?

Review…

This is the 3rd Book in The Holley Sisters of Thornthewaite series. I have read the first one in the series and am happy to be back for the 3rd (not sure how I missed the 2nd one, but it doesn’t effect the storyline).

I love the way Kate writes and draws us into the world she creates and makes us care for the characters she establishes. I’ve read a few different series by this author now and I am never disappointed in how much I enjoy them all.

This book is such an easy and enjoyable read. Perfect for a lazy day to just let your mind flow with.

There are a few little twists which make the book unpredictable and without giving any spoilers it ends in a great way.

The characters are so well written and each brings something totally unique to to the story.

I would 100% recommend this to anyone who is looking for a little romance in their lives.

A solid 4.5 stars from me:)

About The Author…
