Plan With Me 28th Aug to 3rd Sept

Hey everyone. Today I went very much autumnal in my planner. I used the Hello Autumn kit from My Planner Loving Heart.

I adore this kit and there was a huge sale where it was only £3…who could resist! You got so much with it that it will easily do me another 2 spreads.

I teamed it with my functional stickers from Your World of Colour and some autumnal washi I had.

Thanks for reading.

Planner Girl’s Collective: Back To School Supplies

It’s that time of the year again where Autumn starts creeping in and the children are preparing to start the new school year. For the older generation like myself we prepare for college or university.

I am going to be starting my Masters in Law so I have been having a look at supplies I need to gather.

As a self-confessed stationery addict this is probably the best thing for me to do lol.

I love the Signo Sakura Uniball pen but they are only available from Hong Kong so I order from eBay. I order a larger pack in Black.

I also have these in red and blue – this will be especially handy as I will need to colour code various things such as Acts of Parliament, Laws and Cases.

For me there is only 1 choice. Zebra Mildliners.

I already have the blue set to the right but I am debating buying the other colour set. You can get these from Amazon they do come in single packs as well.

I personally love the ARC notebooks from Staples. I have a few A5 and an A4 which I will be using for my studies. I love the interchangeable pages and that the paper is sturdy and good quality.

Ring-Binder Folders

I haven’t quite decided yet but I’m likely to get either these Kraft ones from Paperchase or these roll around ones from WHSmith.

Other than this I don’t really need anything. I’ve got rulers, pencils etc in the plenty.

Thanks for reading and don’t forget to pop over to the other ladies to see their Back to School Supplies.

Book Tour: The Collective by R.S Williams [Book Review]

Grab your Pirate Hat and your eye patch because today we are going on a Pirate Adventure with The Collective by R.S Williams.

Matilda Gregson never knew a world outside hers existed, that is until Harvey comes along and shows her something beyond her imagination. All that is on Tilly’s mind is finishing her dissertation, getting her degree, and spending time with her friends before the end of the school year.

But everything changes when she meets Jenny, an agent of a secret society, and nothing prepared either of them for the adventure they are about to endure. Under the pressures of surviving, their friendship grows and they find friends in the most unlikely of places, and betrayal just around the corner.

Will they both be able to stop him before he tears Jenny’s society to the ground?

I was really excited to read this, I love a good fantasy. Within the first few pages I was sucked in. I found Jenny more of a likeable character than Tilly at the beginning. The whole Collective thing definitely had the upper edge however, as the story progressed we started to see a new side to Tilly which was endearing and started a potentially great character arc.

Without giving much away the villain was played perfectly, I didn’t suspect it either until something he said.

I really liked the concept of the plot, the time-travel, Pirates, Loot! It had everything. I’m intrigued to see where it will go, hopefully there will be a sequel.

I would give this book 4/5 stars, it has everything you need from a good fantasy that gives you a place for your mind to escape.

Thanks for reading.

Blog Blitz: Elephant and Pinky Moon by Lilac Mills [Guest Post]

Today I have a guest post for you from Lilac Mills as part of the Elephant and Pink Moon Book Blog Blitz.

Twenty-eight-year-old Nina lives a quiet, unassuming life, happy (ish) with her job, maybe not quite as happy with her non-existent love-life (but who has everything) and content to trundle along with her nice, predictable daily routine.

That is, until her octogenarian grandmother talks Nina into accompanying her on holiday.

Nina envisages sedate walks along the promenade, afternoon naps by the pool, and bingo in the evening. What she actually gets is too much vodka, adult games of “pin the tail on the donkey” and dancing on a bar whilst flaunting her knickers – and that’s just her gran!

Guest Post

You want me to write a “what”?

You’d think, as an author, your writing commitments would stop at writing the story, wouldn’t you? I certainly did, when I was young and naïve (okay, maybe not that young!). My idea of being an author, before I joined the real world, was that you wrote a novel, sent it off somewhere, someone would jump up and down with glee when they clapped eyes on it, and you’d merrily dance off into the sunset to write the next one, your job done.

Hmmm. That’s not exactly how it works in the publishing industry, as many of you already know, especially my writer friends, who are all too aware of what goes on behind the scenes. Aside from the numerous drafts, the editing, and the proof reading, which all are all part of getting a book published, there are things which an author needs to do which aren’t quite so obvious.

Firstly, there’s the synopsis, which all books should have when they are sent to a publisher/agent for consideration, and let me tell you, they’re tricksy little blighters. My first attempt was nearly as long as the darned novel itself, and cutting my lovingly constructed story down to a couple of dry sides of A4 felt sacrilegious – and not to mention, impossible.

Then let’s don’t forget the introductory letter to said publisher/agent. I had no idea how to sell myself, how to pitch my story to a total stranger, so I Googled some advice. “Tell them what else you’ve written, what awards you’ve won, or any writing accolades”, the advice says. Er…shopping lists, birthday cards, an annoyed email to complain about poor customer service? Somehow, I didn’t think any of those things counted. Under the Cherry Tree was the only thing I’d written. Not much to put on a CV, was it? And as for winning anything, I once won a mountain bike… Accolades? Sorry, no.

Then what about the blurb, eh? Those captivating words on the pack of the novel to entice readers to buy your book? Yeah, that gets written by indie authors themselves – something else I didn’t realise until I decided to self-publish. A few short sentences, with the sole purpose of grabbing a reader’s attention? Hmm. Not as easy as it sounds. Worse than the synopsis, in fact!

But the list doesn’t stop there – emails to reviewers, posts on my website, guest posts on other people’s (like this one!), question and answer sessions, twitter and facebook posts…

For a writer, I can sure run out of things to write about very quickly.

I don’t know about other authors, but I’m not the most gregarious person, and when I research suggestions on what to write about when doing a guest post, my heart sinks. Do readers really want to know about the ins and outs of my rather boring, slightly frantic everyday life?  How do I make myself sound interesting? Is it actually possible? It’s the people in my head who are interesting – after all, they lead much more exciting lives than I do!!

Book Tour: 37 Hours by J.F Kirwan – Review

After two long years spent in a secret British prison, Nadia Laksheva is suddenly granted her freedom. Yet there is a dangerous price to pay for her release: she must retrieve the Russian nuclear warhead stolen by her deadliest enemy, a powerful and ruthless terrorist known only as The Client.

But her mysterious nemesis is always one step ahead and the clock is ticking. In 37 hours, the warhead will explode, reducing the city of London to a pile of ash. Only this time, Nadia is prepared to pull the trigger at any cost…

The deadly trail will take her from crowded Moscow to the silent streets of Chernobyl, but will Nadia find what she is looking for before the clock hits zero?

This is the first book I have read by J.F Kirwan. The book previous to this is called 66 Hours  which I havent read and will pick up.

37 Hours was jam packed full of tension, action and interest. The main character Nadia is a kick ass female who has vulnerabilities which make her real. The other characters that feature in the book are equally as intriguing and easy to follow.

The content of the book can be quite graphic in places so that is something that some may or may not find a problem, I certainly didn’t and found it added to the overall atmosphere of the book.

Overall I enjoyed this and will pick up the first book in the series. I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.

Thanks for reading.

Mid-Year Freak Out Tag

Mid-Year Freak Out Tag.png

Hey! Today I have the Mid-Year Freak Out Tag. I wasn’t tagged for this but I’ve been wanting to do it for a while now.

1) Best books you’ve read so far in 2017?

This may take a while as I’ve read over 50 books so far this year. I have to say Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones is up there, along with Alice: The Wanderland Chronicles by Julie Sullivan, The Path Keeper by Natali Simmonds. There are more but too many to list.

2) Best sequel you’ve read so far in 2017?

Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo and Heir of Fire by Sarah J. Maas

3) New release you haven’t read yet but want to?

Our Dark Duet by V.E Schwab

4) Most anticipated release in the 2nd half of the year?

Tower Of Dawn by Sarah J. Maas. Throne of Glass is one of my all time favourite series.

5) Biggest disappointment

Oh now, this is a hard one. I would have to say A Court of Wings and Ruin by Sarah J. Maas. I had a difficult start to the series and didn’t overly enjoy the 1st book, the 2nd however, changed everything and I really enjoyed it. I had such high expectations for the 3rd book and while it was good I don’t feel it was as good as th 2nd book.

6) Biggest surprise

There are a few in this category as well. I’m not usually a fan of soppy romances but some that I have read for review have had me really surprised at just hw much I have enjoyed them. The Queen of New Beginnings by Therese Lorskar is one in particular.

7) Fav new author

8) Fav new crush

S. Jae-Jones, for bringing a warm magic back into my life with Wintersong.

9) Fav new characters

The Goblin-King from Wintersong, Rowan from Heir of Fire, Calaena as Aelin from Heir of Fire.

10) Book that made you cry

Crooked Kingdom made me cry like a baby, I am still not over it.

11) Book that made you happy

A Court of Wings and Ruin, for not killing Rhysand.

12) Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year

Wintersong by S Jae-Jones and Caraval by Stephanie Gaber

13) What books do you need to read before the end of the year

Way too many. Between reviewing and beta reading I rarely get the chance to read for myself so my tbr pile is currently huge. I am looking forward to reading the rest of the Throne of Glass series, Our Dark Duet, Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent and Wicked Lovely by Marissa Marr.

Bookish Buys…

Very recently I discovered an amazing store on Etsy which is based in the UK. Now, we have  a fair few candle sellers but for much else bookish I usually have to look abroad, particularly the U.S which can be costly with shipping and custom fees.

To say I was overjoyed to find this new UK store was an understatement. I impulse ordered everything I just had to have right then.

The store is called Fable And Black and it arrived quickly via 1st class shipping.

I bought the ACO cup with the best quote of the series, a bag from the same series and two badges from that series and Six of Crows.

Not only is it all pretty but the quality is second to non, I was really pleasantly surprised.

Clearly this will not be my only order from here, I’m sure I will make many more purchases and most of my Christmas wishlist will contain things from here too.

I also purchased a beautiful Alice charm bracelet from the store Whitterzzm who has recently opened. I know Whitney through my book boxes and she is part of my PR team. I was more than happy to be one of the first to purchase from her. The bracelet is amazing! And sooo pretty.

Thanks for reading.
